About the Artist
Presented by art critic Astijus Krauleidis-Vermontas:
Aistė Bugailiškytė, born in 1981 in Vilnius, graduated Vilnius Academy of Arts in 2005 under the guidance of renowned artists Kostas Dereškevičius, Arvydas Šaltenis, and Algimantas Jonas Kuras. Influenced by these masters, Bugailiškytė developed a distinctive painting style, merging the philosophy of Lithuanian colorist traditions with the 19th-century “interior portrait” genre.
Since 2004, Bugailiškytė has actively participated in over 30 exhibitions, both personal and group, in Lithuania and abroad. She is the initiator of the GISA group of painters and has organized 4 exhibitions together with the group members. In 2022, she successfully presented her work at the contemporary art fair “ArtVilnius.” She has participated in art residencies in Lithuania, Denmark and India and her paintings have been acquired by collectors worldwide, including in Germany, Denmark, the USA, Australia, and France.
About the Exhibition „THEY“
The central theme of „THEY“ is the woman and her inner world. These figures act as the artist’s „alter ego“ – elegant ladies with graceful silhouettes, romantic and dreamlike, immersed in love and longing. The author’s works intertwine these dream-filled silhouettes with rich, theatrical interior details, creating visual narratives that reflect her personal experiences and environment.
In her art, the female figure transcends being merely a form; she becomes a space for self-reflection and a sanctuary for the viewer. Aistė Bugailiškytė explores femininity as a multifaceted phenomenon, capturing the nuances of daily life alongside profound explorations of identity.
The paintings are deeply narrative, blending vivid colors and sentimental, theatrical elements to evoke emotions and ignite the viewer's imagination. Bugailiškytė invites the audience into her personal world, offering glimpses into both real and imagined moments of consciousness.
Exhibition presentation and meeting with the author on February 18 (Tuesday) at 4:00 p.m.
The exhibition at Gallery A will be open until 28 of February.
