International Scientific Conference "TRANSBALTICA 2025: Transportation Science and Technology"

On September 18–19, the Faculty of Transport Engineering hosted the 16th international scientific conference "TRANSBALTICA 2025: Transportation Science and Technology," which brought together researchers from over 20 countries. Participants came from Mexico, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey, Spain, Italy, France, Switzerland, Germany, United Kingdom, Greece, Hungary, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Lithuania and other countries.

This year the partners of the conference were the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Lithuania, the Transport Innovation Association, Girteka Logistics, Shell, and the international publisher Springer Nature AG.

Due to the high number of presentations, which exceeded 100 this year, the conference programme was divided into two days. The first day featured a plenary session with three keynote speeches: Prof. Dr. Irina Yatskiv (Jackiva) on “Digital Skills for a Human-Centred Mobility Future”, Dr. Armando Carrillo Zanuy on “Towards FP10 – Academic Networks in European Rail Research” and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Viktor Skrickij on “Motion Control of Multi-Actuated Ground Vehicles” . Following the plenary, parallel sessions were held both on-site and online. In total, the conference included 12 sections covering the latest topics in transport engineering and logistics. Researchers shared insights on Transportation Science and Technology, Logistics and Transportation, Combustion in Engines, Fuels and Emissions, Vehicle Engineering and Dynamics, Railway and Road Transport, Safety and Infrastructure, Autonomous Vehicles and Systems, Maritime Transport and other related subjects. Also, there was a special section for Academic Consortium in Rail Industry.

The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Olegas Prentkovskis, expressed his pride that VILNIUS TECH  Faculty of Transport Engineering has become an international hub for transport research. “As every September, our internationally recognized TRANSBALTICA conference is growing in popularity among scientists across Europe and worldwide. This year, the number of scientific presentations almost doubled compared to last year. TRANSBALTICA is not only a platform for cutting-edge scientific findings but also an opportunity to build partnerships, strengthen international collaboration, and showcase Lithuania and our university as a center of innovation and transport science,” said Dean Prof. Dr. Olegas Prentkovskis.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mykola Karpenko, Chairman of the Scientific Committee, noted that this year the conference faced significant challenges due to the large volume of papers and their processing. After reviewing nearly 200 submitted scientific papers, 102 high-quality works were selected for presentation. “The most challenging task was ensuring that every paper could receive fair, thorough, and high-level peer review. To recognize exceptional contributions, this year we introduced the ‘Reviewer of the Year’ award for several researchers who provided the most reviews and exemplary feedback,” said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Karpenko. The awarded reviewers were: Prof. Dr. Aldona Jarašūnienė (VILNIUS TECH), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vidas Žuraulis (VILNIUS TECH), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gediminas Vaičiūnas (VILNIUS TECH), Dr. Algimantas Danilevičius (VILNIUS TECH), Paulius Kojis (VILNIUS TECH), Dr. Michał Stosiak (Wrocław University of Science and Technology), Dr. Anna Borucka (Military University of Technology), Dr. Jan Dižo (University of Žilina), and Dr. Željko Stević (University of East Sarajevo).

The best scientific papers from the conference will be published in the international volume Lecture Notes in Intelligent Transportation and Infrastructure, indexed in Clarivate Analytics (Web of Science: Conference Proceedings).

After the scientific discussions, participants were invited to visit the Railway and Automobile Museums, network, and exchange experiences.

Women TechEU: Funding Opportunity for Women-Led Deep Tech Startups
Women-led deep tech startups are invited to apply for Women TechEU, an EU-funded initiative designed to support early-stage companies led by women and help them grow into Europe’s future technology leaders. The 2026–2028 edition of Women TechEU will provide €12 million in equity-free funding to support 160 women-led deep tech startups across Europe. Each selected company will receive a €75,000 non-dilutive grant, complemented by a tailored business development programme including mentoring, coaching, training, expert guidance, investor and corporate matchmaking, and networking opportunities. The application process consists of two stages. Applicants must first complete the Eligibility Strand, a simplified eligibility check designed to confirm whether the company meets the programme’s participation requirements. Eligibility applications are accepted on a continuous basis, with weekly cut-off dates every Tuesday at 17:00 Brussels time. The Eligibility Strand remains open until 14 June 2027. Applicants that successfully pass the eligibility check will be invited to submit a Full Proposal. Four Full Proposal submission deadlines are scheduled between 2026 and 2027. Women TechEU also places a strong emphasis on addressing geographical disparities in Europe’s innovation ecosystem. Forty per cent of the budget available at each cut-off is reserved for applicants based in Horizon Europe Widening countries, including Lithuania. The programme is open to eligible women-led early-stage deep tech startups established in EU Member States and eligible Horizon Europe associated countries. Lithuanian women-led deep tech startups are encouraged to explore this opportunity and apply for financial and tailored business development support that can help accelerate their growth, strengthen investor readiness and expand their European networks. “Discover VILNIUS TECH” challenge is over, but digital badge opportunities are expanding (the list of the winners)
The “Discover VILNIUS TECH” challenge, held during the first week of September, helped students discover the VILNIUS TECH digital badge system – nearly 800 new participants joined, and 10 of them won prizes provided by VILNIUS TECH. During the challenge, students unlocked eight digital badge programmes and discovered more than 200 extracurricular activities offered by the University. But the challenge is only the beginning: students can continue earning digital badges throughout their studies and use their certificates to showcase their skills and prepare for their careers. “The meetings held during Integration Week confirmed that students are interested in preparing for their careers from their very first year – learning how to prepare a strong CV, feel more confident in job interviews, and use digital badges and their certificates to present their competencies to employers,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr Ingrida Leščauskienė, Head of the VILNIUS TECH Digital Badge System. This year, students are also being introduced to the new career preparation digital badge programme “DISCOVER. GRAVITY”, developed within the framework of international Erasmus+ project “YOUTH 360”. Students will be able to earn digital badges by participating in career seminars led by professionals, the GRAVITY Career Day, and other career preparation activities.
