VILNIUS TECH launches VIRTASK – an Erasmus+ project that will train soft skills in virtual reality.

In October 2025, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) started coordinating the new Erasmus+ project VIRTASK – Virtual Training for Applied Soft Skills. Over the next 30 months, six partner organisations from Lithuania, Estonia, Ireland, Romania, Serbia and Türkiye will develop VR-based training that helps ICT learners and employees practise the soft skills employers expect.

ICT students and junior specialists are usually well prepared on the technical side. Yet communication, teamwork, problem-solving, customer orientation and other applied soft skills are often the real barrier to finding a job and performing well in it. VIRTASK responds to this gap with training that can be practised in realistic situations, not only read about.

The project has four objectives: to enable ICT VET learners and employees to acquire the soft skills needed in their field; to ensure that VET providers are better equipped to teach these skills with modern, interactive methods; to innovate VET training by developing VR-based learning tools; and to raise awareness of the importance of soft skills among ICT employees and employers.

VIRTASK focuses on five sectors where ICT specialists typically work and where human-centred skills strongly affect performance: education, tourism, finance, healthcare and software. Its main results will be a cross-country sector analysis, a soft skills development report, five sector-oriented training modules, five VR simulations (one per sector) and an online learning platform where all materials will be openly accessible.

The work begins with research. In the coming months, the partners will visit employers in all five sectors and then organise local workshops with VET learners and ICT workers in each country, so that the training is built on what the labour market actually needs.

Project partners: VILNIUS TECH (coordinator, Lithuania), INSPIRATECH OÜ (Estonia), Manorhamilton Development CLG – Future Cast (Ireland), Open Mind Better Future SRL (Romania), Mechanical Engineering School “Kosmaj” (Serbia) and NEXUS Education and Consultation (Türkiye).

VIRTASK (No. 2025-1-LT01-KA220-VET-000356223) is co-funded by the European Union under Erasmus+ Key Action 2 – Cooperation Partnerships in Vocational Education and Training, with a total budget of EUR 250,000.
