When will computer programs replace business analysts?

In order to better analyse and predict business processes and their future, businesses enterprises use not only analysts’ services, but also intelligent computer analysis programs. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) scientists have developed a prototype of software for business development forecasting.

The analysis programs used worldwide, can simulate results of rather static business processes. VGTU Information Systems (IS) Software Engineering graduates Martynas Remeika and Vytautas Pilipas have created a modern software, which is not only more flexible and faster in adapting itself to the changes in the business and its environment, but which is also dynamic. It is easy-to-adopt to the changes in calculations, and, if necessary, to return to the beginning of the calculations, or start from the chosen point. Currently, the Master degree students in IS Engineering Programs are carrying out the tests, and Tadas Vysockis is improving the prototype.

"The students‘ developed program prototype is special on a global scale not only  because of the ability to predict the results of dynamic, adaptive and flexible business processes, but also to evaluate random processes and to react to them. Using VGTU researchers’ ideas on dynamic business processes, VGTU students automated the process of forecasting. The innovation implies the assumption of more accurate simulation results, because the automate business processes are avoiding human factor, which leads to making mistakes," - said Doctor Olegas Vasilecas, the Leader of the project and Professor of the Department of Information Systems. There are not so many examples of similar software, which are more expensive.

Scientists predict that the program will be widely applied in various business sectors, and service providers, purchasers of raw materials, logistics companies, financial brokers and others will use the program soon. Trading networks would plan the delivery of goods, their quantities, frequency and demand more accurately, ensuring the necessary supply of goods to the stores. Managers of oil companies would be able to use the program in order to avoid losses and optimize their performance. The intelligent computer analysis program could ensure uninterrupted and profitable oil terminal‘s work, after setting up the data of the processes taking place, the contracts made, the employment of the oil terminal, the weather changes and their impact.

The program can also search for the models of new markets and businesses, because it performs testing of possible business or business models development in the virtual space, thereby helping to avoid costly and not profitable projects.
