The project aims to strengthen the capacity of local actors to cooperate on climate action — both within their local communities and across borders. The project fosters mutual learning and knowledge exchange among partners, focusing particularly on reducing emissions in transport and consumption.
Together with municipalities, universities, and civil society organisations from Sweden, Poland, and Lithuania, BALCA focuses on knowledge exchange and mutual learning to better engage and motivate citizens to reduce their climate footprint, particularly in the areas of transport and consumption.
Although awareness of climate issues is growing, many citizens still find it difficult to turn knowledge into concrete action. BALCA addresses this gap by involving citizens directly in decision-making and empowering them to take practical climate action
Although awareness of climate issues is growing, many citizens still find it difficult to turn knowledge into concrete action. BALCA addresses this gap by involving citizens directly in decision-making and empowering them to take practical climate action
A key element of the project is the creation of citizen-led action groups, composed of working-age residents, who develop and implement local solutions that promote sustainable behaviour. Through this participatory and cross-border approach, BALCA contributes to the goals of the European Green Deal and the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR).
