April 12 – the World Aviation and Cosmonautics Day!
On April 12 World celebrates an Aviation and Cosmonautics Day to commemorate the first manned space flight – more than 60 years ago Yuri Gagarin orbited the Earth aboard the Vostok 1 spacecraft. The era of space exploration began.
Interest in space exploration in Lithuania is steadily growing and increased last year when the country became an associate member of the European Space Agency. New opportunities opened up for Lithuania – from last year citizens are eligible to apply to the ESA Astronaut group, etc. Lithuania‘s membership is a big step forward for the growing Lithuanian space community.
VILNIUS TECH also contributes to the strengthening of the Lithuanian space community. Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute prepares students to work in the field of aeronautics (Aeronautical Engineering study programme) and contributes to the development of space technologies and innovations – students have the opportunity to create a space startup during their studies and become part of the growing space industry. There are already few successful space businesses in Lithuania such as Nanoavionics (which created the first Lithuanian satellite) and newcomers are welcome.
