Director of VILNIUS TECH Library – Chairman of Lithuanian Research Library Consortium
On March 29 during the general meeting of the members of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium (hereinafter – the Consortium) the chairman, deputy chairman, council and audit commission of the LMBA were elected. Ingrida Kasperaitienė, the director of the VILNIUS TECH Library, has been elected the new chairman of the Consortium, who will replace Emilija Banionytė, the long-term chairman of the LMBA.
The purpose of the Lithuanian Research Library Consortium – to subscribe electronic databases for the members of the Lithuanian Research Library Association and other libraries, to take care of the necessary funding, to maintain contact with publishers, to collect information on the needs of Lithuanian researchers, to analyze statistical indicators of database use. Currently, the Consortium unites 46 members (in 2021): 15 universities, 6 research institutes / centers, 17 colleges, Lithuanian Martynas Mažvydas National Library, 2 special libraries and 5 county public libraries.
In 2021 the Consortium has successfully completed the European Union Structural Funds project “eMoDB.LT3: Opening of Electronic Science Databases for Lithuania”, the value of which amounted to almost 31.5 million EUR of which members' contributions amounted to 4.7 million EUR. At the end of this project, the Ministry of Education and Sports of the Republic of Lithuania took over the financing of ensuring access to the electronic scientific databases necessary for the “Priority Research and Experimental Development and Innovation Development Program and their Priorities Implementation Program”. Provided that the institutions contribute up to 30% co-financing from own resources. Subscription to the desired databases will be funded under the 2022 Minister for Education, Science and Sport order by March 4 no. V-351.
In 2021 the Consortium members subscribed 80 databases and tools: more than 21,000 electronic magazines and more than 440 thousand electronic books, had purchased 6 archives. During 2021 were downloaded 3.287 million articles from magazines and more than 538,000 books chapters. Statistics can be generated by each institution from the automated information system for licensing and administration of electronic science databases.
