Journal selection for publishing – direct comparison of WoS indexed journals is now also available
Aiming to assure that the results of the performed research will reach the most relevant audience and will make a beneficial addition both to the career of the researcher and to the scientific output of the institution, it is crucial to choose a suitable journal for publishing.
Probably, the most straight-forward approach would be to select the journal from the ones publishing the highest amounts of papers directly related to performed research intended to be published (i.e. by assessing which journals are dominating among the articles you have referenced in your own manuscript). However, due to the huge and continuously increasing number and variety of available journals there remains a high possibility that in the preparation of your manuscript you did not managed to cover literature from all journals relevant to your research. In addition, possible changes in the publishing profiles (thematic coverage, publishing models, editorial criteria, etc.) of already well-known journals may make them no longer fully consistent with your own main goals and priorities.
When seeking the most objective selection of a journal, it should be performed within wide and variant context. After accomplishment of an initial journal search within selected journal directory, narrowing the search results by the personally relevant criteria, and evaluation of the quality of the remaining journals (more information about these journal selection steps is available here >>>), it is necessary to carefully assess the suitability of every journal to your research and manuscript, and to assure of journals’ credibility.
However, even after accomplishment of all these aforementioned selection steps, often there is still a need to choose between several relatively equivalent journals. This is where a direct journal comparison tools become especially helpful. These tools are also available at bibliographic databases (DBs), e.g. Scopus (detailed information on Scopus source comparison is provided here >>>), and we are pleased to be able to share with you that since July 2022 the possibility to directly compare Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals was also implemented. This new feature is accessible through Journal Citation Reports (JCR) journal analysis tool. Accordingly, only journals included in the JCR (i.e. listed in the main indexes constituting WoS Core Collection) can be compared (journals indexed in regional and subject specific indexes are not included) (more information about JCR is available here >>>).
This additional JCR functionality allows you to easily and fastly revise the information and data of compared journals presented side-by-side, including:
