New doctoral dissertation
VILNIUS TECH Library invites you to follow the published new dissertations. The dissertation „Research on a bus frame with fiberglass elements“ prepared by VILNIUS TECH, Tautvydas Pravilonis, is presented in Lithuanian. The dissertation was prepared in 2017–2022, supervisors – Assoc. Prof. Dr. Edgar Sokolovskij.
The dissertation will be defended at the public meeting of the Dissertation Defence Council of Transport Engineering in the Senate Hall of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University at 10 a. m. on 11 April 2022.
„The dissertation investigates the frame structure of a bus, which is made using innovative materials that reduce the vehicle’s overall weight. One of the main problems solved in the dissertation is assessing structural safety by performing computer simulations of rollover and side impact based on the finite element method and natural experiments. The dissertation also evaluated the change of dynamic parameters and passenger comfort. The thesis includes an introduction, four chapters, general conclusions, the list of references, the list of the author’s publications on the thesis subject and seven annexes. The introductory chapter reviews the research problem and the relevance of the thesis. It presents the formulated research object, aim and tasks of the thesis, the research methodology, the scientific novelty, the practical significance, and the defended thesis statements. The end of the introduction provides the author’s publications and conference papers on the topic of the dissertation and the structure of the dissertation. The first chapter reviews research papers on the topic of the thesis. It presents an analysis of the requirements ensuring the safety of the bus frame structure and an overview of measures applied to minimise the vehicle mass and ensure safety. The second chapter describes tests performed to determine the mechanical properties of an innovative fibreglass composite material made by pultrusion. It compares different materials and presents the created material model. The third chapter presents numerical models used in the calculations of the bus frame structure in dynamics. Computer simulations evaluate and compare the parameters of different structures. The fourth section presents the equipment used to evaluate the strength and dynamic characteristics of the bus frame structure. It presents the experimental research methodology, the results of experimental field tests and compares the results. Nine scientific articles on the thesis subject have been published: four publications have in scientific journals included in the Clarivate Analytics Web of Science database, two in other international publications database, one in peer-reviewed periodical and disposable publications and two in the peer-reviewed conference proceedings“.
