VILNIUS TECH open access publications aligning with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) – Climate Action
The implementation of United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs) is today’s focus and requires active research activities, results of which are being published in scientific articles. Therefore, it is not surprising that the major bibliographic databases (DBs) – Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus – have also implemented a possibility to easily and rapidly search and analyze scientific production aligning with these goals. The most convenient way to achieve that is by using InCites analytical tool available in WoS DB, or a similar SciVal tool accessible from Scopus DB.
SciVal tool allows to easily assess the input of research institutions in SDGs implementation. The picture below illustrates VILNIUS TECH input in SDG related research based on data from university affiliated publications published during 2017-2022 period in Scopus indexed sources.
This week the International Open Access Week is being celebrated, and the theme for this year is “Open for Climate Justice”. This theme is closely related to the one of the 17 UN SDGs, namely the 13th goal – Climate Action.
Therefore, by utilizing the temporary access to SciVal tool granted by Elsevier, the scientific input of VILNIUS TECH in combating climate change and its consequences was assessed in more details.
124 VILNIUS TECH affiliated research publications (of all types) aligning with the 13th SDG were published during 2017-2022 period in Scopus indexed sources, and 81 of them are Open Access. These 81 publications were analyzed in greater depth.
According to the data of SciVal analysis, aforementioned 81 open access publications were cited 842 times (on average, more than 10 times per publication), and an overall value of Field-Weighted Citation Impact is 1.65 (the value of 1 indicate an average citation impact within the field), which shows a high relevance of VILNIUS TECH scientific production. Meanwhile, the value of Field-Weighted Views Impact is even higher (1.84), illustrating a significant readers’ attention attracted by VILNIUS TECH research activities.
The published researches were carried out in cooperation with 66 Lithuanian and foreign scientific institutions, and 239 authors participated in the preparation of the publications. Below is a list of the top 10 VILNIUS TECH authors most contributed to this field of science.
Almost 90 % of these publications were published in sources occupying the highest quartile positions (Q1 or Q2) by journal citation impact values, and the most of publications were published in journals Energies and Sustainability (22 and 12, respectively). Therefore, it is not surprising, that while assessing the distribution of these publications by subject areas, the highest shares are determined within energy and engineering fields (over 50% in each):
SciVal tool allows to evaluate many other additional aspects of scientific production, and the majority of them, in respect of 2017-2022 VILNIUS TECH affiliated open access publications aligning with the 13th SDG, are provided in the reports generated with the SciVal tool:
VILNIUS TECH Open Access Publications within SDG 13-Climate Action (2022) - Citation Impact, Research Areas and Topics
VILNIUS TECH Open Access Publications within SDG 13-Climate Action (2022) - Collaboration, Authors, Institutions, and Social Impact
