A virtual private network – a network of computer networks in remote locations connected via the internet. It is virtual because the networks are not connected directly to each other, but through the internet. It is private because the network is protected from unauthorised external access. Organisations use VPN technology for quick and safe extension of their private computer networks, i.e. remote users from home or other locations can connect through the internet. Data sent through VPN is encrypted and users are safe from an unauthorised external access to their data. VILNIUS TECH is using high-security SSL VPN. This technology uses higher level of encryption and secure data transmission tunnels; thus, the user feels as if they work on a local network irrespective of their actual location.
You should use VPN to access electronic resources of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. This service is provided only to the university’s academic community. When you are connected using VPN, all your internet data is transmitted through the university’s computer network. Every member of the community, using their personal computer, can access the following services and resources:
VGTU is using FortiClient VPN. Please read the installation guide for your operation system (Installation Instructions for Windows OS).

Note: you need administrator rights on your computer to install Cico AnyConnect.
You do not need the programme on computers using VILNIUS TECH's network.
FortiClient is compatible with other VPN applications, including IPScec, but FortiClient will not work if any other VPN is active at the same time.
