VGTU students will use the unmanned aircraft for their research
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) provided one more opportunity for preparation students’ final works, research projects, studies, or application of their theoretical knowledge, giving yet another innovative tool – an unmanned aircraft. The autonomous aircraft, created at VGTU Antanas Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute, will give access to the exploration of the latest technologies and acquisition of interdisciplinary knowledge.
The aircraft‘s field of usage is very broad – students and researchers of any VGTU faculty will be able to use the unmanned aircraft in order to achieve their specific academic or study purposes. The autonomous airplane, created this year, can lift and carry the load of up to one kilogram, such as scientific equipment, various sensors, video or photo cameras, etc.
"Unmanned aircrafts are rapidly gaining popularity around the world, a growing number of areas for their usage increasing daily. We want to give our students the opportunity to test the latest technologies, and also to improve them. Not only aviators, but also electronics, mechanical engineers, programmers and other professionals, will contribute to the process and have more opportunities to broaden and deepen their own knowledge." - said Jonas Stankūnas, the Director of VGTU A. Gustaitis’ Aviation Institute.
The truth is, the operation of the autonomous aircraft requires specific knowledge and adequate infrastructure, such as a terminal with asphalt runway. The developers of the aircraft from VGTU Department of Aviation Devices would help everyone to use the aircraft. If needed, all necessary equipment will be installed into a smaller aircraft, able to fly in any open space.
An unmanned aerial vehicle flies according to the predetermined route or is operated by a remote control panel. It is also possible to manage its flight using video glasses - a video transmitter inside the airplane transmits the image to the special glasses, so you can accurately track the journey of the aircraft.
