For the convenience of VGTU students – the latest Internet gateway in Lithuania
In September, not only the teachers with interesting lectures are waiting for the students of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), but also the renewed and most innovative Internet gateway for students - “Mano VGTU”. It will work on a “one-window” principle, providing access to the University information system, e-mail, library, virtual learning and other environments.
“It is a comfortable and friendly space for our students – they can find all necessary information there. Students will easily find answers to their problems, reach necessary information about studies, library, regulations of the internal study processes; find forms and templates of documents, information about international studies, scholarships and important contacts,” – said Eglė Radvilė, the Head of Information Technologies and Systems Centre at VGTU.
While programming the new Internet gateway for students, we drew particular attention to the recent trends - more and more people are actively using tablet computers, or smartphones, performing a part of computer functions. The latest Media Research revealed that the amount of mobile Internet users is increasing, comprising 32 per cent of the total Internet audience.
“In the light of this statistics as well as Google recommendations, we created “Mano VGTU” according to the latest Responsive Design, which is perfectly-aware of various sizes of screens of computers and tablet computers, as well as other mobile devices. It is necessary to take into account the audience – the modern young people,” - E. Radvilė underlined the advantages of “Mano VGTU”.
The Head of Information Technologies and Systems Centre at VGTU drew attention to the renewed “First Year Student‘s Guide”, located at “Mano VGTU”, the innovation, which will assist our students. It will help the beginners to make their first steps, finding out about VGTU and studies at our University, learning about other opportunities (studies at the University and training abroad, career planning), as well as finding out about students‘ leisure and other activities.
“From now on, students will be able not only to find their assessments, but also compare them with the results of their friends – this should motivate them to work harder. The students, who would like to gain more knowledge, will find the list of recommended literature for each semester,” – said E. Radvilė, explaining that everything is for the benefit and convenience of our students.
