Prime Minister Visits VILNIUS TECH AGAI: 'The Government's Goal – Universities That Build an Advanced Nation'
On Monday, Prime Minister Gintautas Paluckas visited the Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute (AGAI) at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) to gain firsthand insight into the institute’s aviation expert training, research, and projects.
Developing highly qualified specialists in Lithuania, attracting talent, and promoting research and experimental development (R&D) are among the government’s key priorities.
"Strong universities are a prerequisite for an educated, progressive, and successful nation—one that not only considers the present but also anticipates the future and how to maximize the opportunities that come with it. The government sees this as one of its priorities: creating the best possible conditions for scientific research, high-value economic transformation, and science-business partnerships, ensuring benefits for society and the state as a whole," said the Prime Minister.
The meeting with the Prime Minister was attended by VILNIUS TECH Rector Prof. Dr. Romualdas Kliukas, Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vaidotas Trinkūnas, AGAI Dean Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linas Juknevičius, Vice-Dean for Communications, International Relations, Alumni, and Partnerships Laurynas Šišovas, as well as other university and government representatives.
"With G. Paluckas and other university leaders, we discussed funding for scientific projects, strategically important research development directions, key engineering fields relevant to Lithuania, and ways to attract students to these disciplines," shared the VILNIUS TECH Rector after visiting AGAI's simulators and creative workshops.
To drive progress in R&D, the active engagement of institutions and social partners at all levels, with a focus on results and seamless collaboration, is crucial. To support this effort, the Prime Minister also met with the Chairman of the Lithuanian Research Council last month.
Monday’s meeting also addressed opportunities for upgrading VILNIUS TECH's infrastructure, as well as the university’s technological innovations and the potential of its trained specialists to strengthen the defense sector.
