Aviation Engineering Practical training depot AIPB (147 organisation is a subdivision of AGAI, the main activity of which is:
- organisation of aircraft maintenance specialists (mechanics and avionics) theoretical and practical training according to EASA Part 147 requirements;
- administration of aircraft maintenance specialists (mechanics and avionics) theoretical and practical training programmes, preparation of study and methodological material according to EASA Part 66 requirements;
- cooperation with aviation enterprises for student practical training;
- organisation of aircraft type B1 and B2 training, preparation of required documents and programmes, type training examinations. The study programmes are in accordance with LR Civil Aviation Administration. The training can be delivered in Lithuanian, Russian or English. After the theoretical and practical training students receive certificates;
- preparation of documents required for training of aircraft maintenance specialists according to requirements of EASA Part 66 and Part 147;
- examination of student theoretical and practical training according to EASA Part 147 requirements;
- aircraft type Cessna 152 theoretical and practical training n cooperation with AGAI Aviation Specialists‘ Qualification Improvement Centre (ASKTC) and AGAI Flight Training Unit (145 organisation);
- aircraft type Cessna 152 training can be organised not only for specialists of our country but also for specialists of other countries. They are organised according to agreement.
AIPB aim is to prepare aviation aircraft maintenance specialists (mechanics and avionics), so that after their first cycle studies the students would be able to work in aviation enterprises. Student theoretical and practical training conformity with EASA Part 66 requirements, organisation of aircraft type training according to EASA Part 147 requirements allows students to become licensed specialists of aircraft maintenance
AGAI graduates successfully work in the Military Air Force, State Boarder Guard, air enterprises and other aviation organisations.
Requirements for becoming a licensed aircraft maintenance specialist
Aircraft maintenance specialist license provides the right to its holder to provide aircraft technical maintenance for aviation enterprises and other organisations inLithuaniaand other countries.
The preparation of aircraft maintenance specialists consists of:
1. Studies of theoretical disciplines of aviation (basic training). These disciplines are distributed into 17 modules. For aviation mechanics and avionics specialists some of the 17 modules are not common. These modules are incorporated into the study programmes of the first cycle. According to EASA requirements 1 600 academic hours have to be allocated for aviation disciplines.
2. The acquirement of main (basic) practical skills. Students acquire them during their practical training courses and later by working in aviation enterprises. Practical training s an essential part of theoretical training, according to EASA requirements its duration has to be approximately 1 400 academic hours. Practical skills can only be acquired in certified aircraft maintenance training institutions, and have to be supervised by an appointed practice instructor. The list of required practical skills is provided in “Aircraft maintenance engineers‘practical log book“. It can be purchased at the Aviation Institute. Practice instructor confirms the acquired skills with his signature in the log book. According to EASA requirements the duration of practical training has to be at least 2 years for aviation mechanics and 3 for avionics specialists from the beginning of practical training (from the acquirement of the first skill in the practical log book).
3 Aircraft type theoretical training. It is a theoretical training of a specific type of aircraft. AGAI organises free of charge theoretical training of Cessna 152 type for all students of aviation mechanics (24 h) and avionics (16 h). This type of training, as a commercial service, can be provided by AGAI for non-students as well.
4. Aircraft type practical training (internship). The duration of the internship depends on the experience of the specialist. For students without experience the duration of this type practical training is 4 months. For both students and others interested AGAI can organise practical training of this aircraft type for an additional fee, depending on the experience acquired.
After acquiring the theoretical knowledge of required modules, acquiring main practical skills, completing the full theoretical and practical training the student can become a licensed aircraft maintenance specialist (acquire an international license of aircraft maintenance specialist).
Since the foundation of Aviation Institute in 1993, aircraft maintenance specialists have been prepared. Theoretical studies of the future aviation specialists are a core part of first cycle studies. Aircraft maintenance specialists are prepared in Antanas Gustaitis Aviation institute according to three programmes. Future aviation mechanics engineering specialists study at the Department of Aviation Mechanics. The Avionics Department prepares specialists of avionics (aviation electronics and aviation electric equipment engineers). The preparation of these specialists consists of both theoretical and practical training, administered according to international requirements. On November 20,2006 LR Civil Aviation Administration notified that VGTU Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute (AGAI) meets the requirements for preparation institution of aircraft maintenance specialists of Commission regulation (EB) Nr. 2042/2003 Part 147 Annex 1. Theoretical and practical training was administered by AGAI departments. Due to the increase of the requirements for aircraft maintenance specialists, by the decision of VGTU Senate of March 26, 2008 Nr. 27-3.8 Aviation Engineering Practical Training Depot was founded as a subdivision of Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute. Its main activity is the design of study programmes for aviation engineering aircraft maintenance theoretical and practical training, study programme design according to Commission regulation (EB) Nr. 2042/2003 Part 66 requirements and the organisation of this training according to Commission regulation (EB) Nr. 2042/2003 Part 147 Annex 1. Responsible Head of AIPB is AGAI Director Jonas Stankūnas. AIPB foundation plan was designed.
On October 1, 2009 LR Civil Aviation Administration approved VGTU Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute as an organisation for technical maintenance training, operating according to Regulation (EB) Nr. 2042/2003 Part 147, description of aircraft type (Cessna 152) theoretical training / examination according to category B1.2.
On August 19, LR Civil Aviation Administration approved VGTU Antanas Gustaitis Aviation Institute as an organisation for technical maintenance training, operating according to Regulation (EB) Nr. 2042/2003 Part 147, descriptions of aircraft type (Cessna 152) theoretical training / examination according to category B1.2 and B2.
On February 17, 2011 LR Civil Aviation Administration approved aircraft Cessna 152 practical training programmes for categories B1.2 and B2. This means that AIPB meets the international requirements of EASA.
