ICAO TAEP - Test of Aviation English for Pilots
PROCEDURE OF THE ENGLISH PROFICIENCY EVALUATION EXAMINATION (TEST) FOR PILOTS
During the test the levels of these skills will be determined:

- Pronunciation (pronunciation, stress, intonation, accent)
- Constructions (grammatical constructions and sentence formation, structure)
- Vocabulary (range of vocabulary, skill to paraphrase)
- Coherence (fluency of speech, tempo)
- Comprehension (comprehension of speaker‘s message)
- Communication (freedom, reaction, infomativeness, maintaining conversation).
Each skill will be evaluated by a separate mark from 1 to 6. The final test mark in order to pass the test must not be lower than 4.
The final test mark will be equal to the lowest mark for the skills. For example if the pronunciation, constructions, vocabulary and coherence are evaluated as 6 and perception and communication as 3 the final test mark will be 3.
The test consists of three parts. During all the three parts the levels of all six skills will be evaluated.
Part 1. Conversation. General questions are given on the CLIENT, his work, habits; provide an opinion on some issue. Duration of this part: 4-5 min.
Part 2. Listening. Non-standard radio telephony situations are provided. Firstly six situations are played (each separately) and comments have to be provided on each of them. Afterwards three more situations are provided. After the first part of each situation it has to be commented on and inquired about. Then the CLIENT listens to the second part of the situation and has to provide suggestions for solving the problem presented in the situation. Duration of this part: 10 min.
Part 3. Narration and discussion. Two pictures related to aviation are provided. The pictures have to be described providing as much information as possible, questions will be provided to maintain discussion. Duration of this part: 5-7 min.
During the examination the examiner presents all tasks and announces their beginning and end. If needed, the examiner can present the task annotation in Lithuanian.
The entire test is recorded.
During the test both the examiner and the evaluator are present. The evaluator fills in the evaluation sheet providing his/her comments on each skill. The evaluation sheet is provided together with the English proficiency level certificate.
The certificate is provided in Lithuanian/English in 5work days from the test day. The proficiency level is stated in the certificate together with the evaluations for each skill.
