The scientists of Laboratory have been testing physical-mechanical and thermal-technical characteristics of thermal insulating materials and products for more than 40 years. The main areas – the development and research of novel thermal insulating materials from renewable resources, the investigation, research of the resitance to short-term and long-term compressive loadings of lightweight effective thermal insulating products, their long-term predictions, the investigation and prediction of moisture characteristics and their influence on thermal conductivity by calculating thermal-moisture regyme of layered building envelopes, research of acoustics and noise management in residential and work environment, laboratory and natural measurmenets of acoustic indicators, building sound classification, monitoring of environmental noise.

Laboratory has been accredited for quality assurance testing of thermal insulating materials and products for building envelopes since 1996 (relevant accreditation scope). Accreditation certificate No. LA.01.004 (see http:/www.nab.lrv.lt).

Since 2005, Scientific Institute of Thermal Insulation of VGTU has been registered as notified body (identification number 1688) for the evaluation of performance according to the requirements of European Parliament and Council Regulation (EU) No. 305/2011 (
according to the 3rd system). The main function of laboratory under evaluation of performance according to the 3rd system is product type determination tests.
