We invite you to visit the exhibition „Without a Plan" by Assoc. Prof. Mindaugas Užkuraitis from the Faculty of Architecture at VILNIUS TECH, displayed at Gallery A (Saulėtekio al. 14, second floor).
The artist about himself
I am a designer, scenographer, and lecturer. I have been working in the creative field for over 20 years – from furniture design to television scenography.
I completed my Bachelor's degree in furniture design at the Vilnius Academy of Arts in Telšiai, followed by a Master's in design in Vilnius. Today, I work as the chief set designer at LRT, where I create scenography for TV shows, concerts, and events. Also I am a lecturer at the VILNIUS TECH Department of Design – I lead design studio courses and supervise final theses.
For many years, my creative work was close to rules, structures, and functionality. But today, my work is an intuitive process. I’ve moved from strict lines to layering, spontaneity, and spray paint. I’m fascinated by what emerges between structure and randomness.
About the exhibition
My creative process begins with an impulse. A strange inner movement that says, „now“. Sometimes it's a color that won’t leave my mind. Sometimes it's a rhythm that follows me throughout the day. And then I begin to spray, layer, cover, reveal.
I never know what the result will be. And to me, that’s the most interesting part – when the color lives its own life, when the form doesn’t come from a blueprint, but from breath, movement, from being here and now.
This exhibition isn’t about answers. It’s about states of being. Moments when you don’t want to speak – only to observe. When you stop, step back, and the colors begin to speak for you.
As a lecturer, I see every day how creativity is born from not knowing. How ideas arise not from rules, but from mistakes. My works are the same – unfiltered, uncorrected. If a line goes the „wrong“ way – so be it. Maybe that’s exactly where it was meant to go.
Color, form, layer, silence, noise – all of that is in these works. And most importantly, I hope that each viewer doesn’t see what I was thinking, but what they themselves are feeling.
Exhibition presentation and meeting with the author on April 8 at 4:00 p.m.
The exhibition at Gallery A will be open until until April 30.
