About Faculty
In 2021, Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) was ranked 151+ in the "QS World University Rankings by Subject for Architecture.
The Architecture Faculty at VILNIUS TECH provides courses at all levels of professional study, including: undergraduate (Bachelor), graduate (Master) and postgraduate (Doctoral). As of 2019, more than 400 students are enrol in the School. AF community consists of more than 400 students, 47 academics, 10 auxiliary staff, and a wide network of alumni.
Architecture (M.Arch) studies in our university are integrated five-year course (300 ECTS credits) leading to a Master's degree; teaching are provided in Lithuanian and English. In this particular course we enrol approximatelly 40 pre-selected students each year. Successful completion of the undergraduate qualification provides the necessary professional qualification to commence work as an architect.
Also, in faculty of Architecture are Industrial Product Design studies program – four-year course (240 ECTS) and masters degree in Industrial Design, which is a two-year course (120 ECTS credits). Since September of 2020 a three-year course Bachelor program in Landscape Architecture (180 ECTS credits) was lounched.
Expanded Limits of Architecture by Research. Analysis and development of the design solutions oriented to the challenges of architectural, landscape and urban design, architectural heritage projects, as well as history of architecture, interpretation of contemporary architectural ideas – these are the fields where our academics and PhD candidates are making noticeable influence on social processes in the country. From early study-years students are engaged to academic projects, management of multi-disciplinary teams focusing on the challenges of cities through theoretical courses, fieldworks and research assistant positions.

HISTORY
The origins and academic tradition of the Faculty of Architecture of VILNIUS TECH dates back to the first half of the XXth century and is connected with the history of Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas and postwar Kaunas Institute of Technology. In 1971 the Faculty of Architecture was moved to Vilnius and became a part of newly established VISI (Vilnius Institute of Construction and Technology). In 1990 VISI was named Vilnius Technical University (VTU) and finally in 1996 – Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE TODAY: STRUCTURE AND STUDIES
VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture is the largest institution of higher education in the field of Architecture in Lithuania. It provides all levels of professional studies: undergraduate (Bachelor), graduate (Master) and Doctoral. Over 500 students of all levels are studying at the University Today. Many
of our academic staff members are leading authorities in their field. Faculty consists of 57 lecturers, including 10 professors and 32 associated professors. Approximately 85-100 selected students enroll for the Bachelor degree studies, 50 architects are graduating with Masters’ degree every year. Bachelor’s degree studies last 4 years (contains 240 ECTS credits), Master’s degree studies – 2 years (120 ECTS). VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture offers Bachelor’s program taught in both Lithuanian and English. In Lithuania, Bachelor degree diploma validates professional qualification of an architect. Those who want to continue their studies can choose between several specializations available in Master degree studies: Architecture of Buildings, Urban Planning, Urban Design, Renovation of Buildings, as well as separate program of History and Theory of Architecture (Humanitarian Sciences). Faculty of Architecture has passed international accreditation of the Architecture study programs in 2008. The audit was initiated by Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education of Lithuania. Study programs of the Faculty were reviewed by the international expert group headed by the vice president of Open Greece University and president of the Agency for Assurance of Higher Education in Greece, professor of architecture Spyros Amourgis.
On the basis of the recommendations of the international experts committee, Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education granted unconditional accreditation of study programs provided by VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture.
