2013
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University Council Resolution No. 3-7 The Department of Design is established at the Faculty of Architecture.
Doc. dr. Jonas Jakaitis becames head of the Department and Chairman of the Industrial Product Design study program since 2013.
In the 2013/2014 academic year, the Department of Industrial Products Design was launched at the Department together with the Faculty of Engineering.
2016
Since the 2016 academic year, the Department of Design has begun third-cycle doctoral studies.
2017
Study Quality Assessment Center / Written no. SV2-12 informed the Department of Design about the accreditation of the planned second cycle study program "Industrial Design". From 2017 September 01 The Department of Design will start implementing this, second cycle study program as a stage of new developmen.

Study programme aims:
1. Objective of Industrial product design bachelor's study programme is to prepare professionals who are able to implement the latest achievements of high technologies and design, who know and understand fundamentals of industrial engineering and industrial design process, who are qualified to apply basic engineering and design principles for identifying, formulating and solving industrial production problems, is able to create multi-purpose industrial products, to develop their design and technology projects, know how to organize and manage the production of industrial designs, to ensure products' functionality, competitive and high aesthetic level.
2. To develop the broadly educated manufacturing engineer, who are able to think critically, independently and creatively address technical, technological, functional, artistic and administrative issues of industrial production in the context of the global market, to work in a creative team, to understand the impact and importance of their decisions on public development, to improve professional skills and competence through lifelong learning.
Prospective study programme results:
Application of knowledge: Z1. Knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry and ability to apply them to engineering design activities. Z2. Knowledge of humanities and social science required for engineering activities and to develop erudition and philosophical worldview of the specialist. Z3. General knowledge of technological science, covering the principles of mechanics, material science, electrical and electronics, engineering graphics, and understanding how to use them in engineering activities. Z4. Knowledge of equipment of industrial production, morphology and structure, operational principles, basics of design, manufacturing technology, design and production planning, human resource management, industrial marketing.
Research competencies: GV1. The ability to collect, classify, analyze, synthesize and interpret the data needed to address manufacturing engineering issues. GV2. Ability to understand the latest technology in manufacturing engineering, to investigate the need of industrial product, to analyze the design, manufacturing and operating techniques and predict their marketing and usability.
Special skills and competencies: SG1. The ability to identify the problems in production engineering and to analyze them, ability to design manufacturing processes, to understand their management techniques. SG2. The ability to analyze and design a variety of industrial products, to select the appropriate materials, circuit and processing techniques, to develop the programs of their production, testing, maintenance, to deal with product advertising and marketing issues. SG3. - SG4. Ability to develop industrial design, creatively using morphology, composition and other aesthetic knowledge, principles of visualization, computer aided design capabilities SG5. Ability to perform engineering calculations, developing the necessary design documentation, putting it in correct shape.
Social skills and competencies: CG1. Ability to think critically, independently and creatively address technical, technological, functional, artistic and administrative issues of industrial production. CG2. Luxenbourg Design Action group:
The event took place in March at MUDAM, the Museum of Modern Art in Luxembourg (http://www.designpolicy.eu/2016/03/01/design-policy-in-action/), and was organised as part of Design for Europe. Ambassadors from Slovenia, Estonia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland and Portugal gathered to take part in a peer-to-peer event on design policy organised by the Design Policy Lab at Politecnico di Milano and Luxinnovation.
In this occasion the Lab presented his latest project, the Design Policy Beacon, (http://www.designpolicy.eu/design_policy_beacon_description/) in order to put its conceptual framework to the test and obtain feedback from an intercultural and public audience.
The results of the workshop "Design Policy in Action - The model of the Luxembourg Design Action Group", are now available online. Design Policy in Action WS – Report published:
