Agna Petkevičiūtė: "While creating architecture, we must increasingly think about the fourth dimension - time"
Agna Petkevičiūtė, the winner of the 2024 Architectural Drawing Competition of Lithuanian Higher Schools of Architecture, today welcomes her solo exhibition at the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH) Library and invites her colleagues to take part in the 2025 competition "the Architecture of Becoming".
Agna Petkevičiūtė, a student of the Faculty of Architecture (FA) at VILNIUS TECH, has won the 2024 competition with her creative work "Between Life and Death". Her exhibition "Between Life and Death: sketches of everyday life" will be presented at the VILNIUS TECH Library on 20 March. The exhibition is already open at the library, and Agna reveals the fact that it was the winning of competition that prompted her to plan her second solo exhibition:
"It never leaves my mind that I need to continue on my creative path and to organise exhibitions. I want to keep going and have a break from everyday life. This is my second solo exhibition. The first one was right after I graduated school. I presented a series of works at the Museum of Wooden City Architecture called "Šnipiškės House of Cards", which reflected the transience, change and problems of the architecture of the Šnipiškės neighbourhood. At that time I was just sharing in an interview that I was hoping to enrol in the VILNIUS TECH Architecture study programme.
Of course, during my studies it was difficult to think about organising another exhibition. I am very grateful to Aušra Šileikienė, the curator of exhibitions at the VILNIUS TECH Library, who helps me to coordinate all the elements and advises me in a very sincere and responsible way. It makes the whole process much easier and less stressful".
The 2025 is currently underway. Architectural drawing competition "the Architecture of Becoming". "the architecture of becoming I associate with architecture that does not have a single state, that is different, that reflects current events. It is also a process architecture that is not made up of the usual three dimensions.
I believe that we must increasingly think about the fourth dimension of architecture - time - which is what should help this theme to unfold. Architecture that adapts or architecture that is adapted to is up to you," says Petkevičiūtė on the theme of the competition.
The student has not yet decided whether she will take part in this year's drawing competition, but she invites everyone to try and reveals how she would use the main prize of the travel agency BPC travel if she were to be successful a second time: "It is still difficult to say whether I will participate, but this year's theme is very interesting to me, so I would encourage students to try. Whether you are in your first year or have already graduated, take advantage of this opportunity.
Even if you don't win, you develop your worldview, you may discover a new style, which may be different, but it's yours (it happened to me). If I decided to enter again and won, I would probably use the BPC travel gift for a trip to Vienna. I've been very interested in the city, its architecture, its urban subtleties, and Vienna's natural conditions are special".
The Architectural Drawing Competition "the Architecture of Becoming" is open until 24 March 2025. The competition is open to all Lithuanian Architecture students and 2024 graduates. Full terms and conditions of the competition here.
