Prof. Edmond Saliklis: "Learn by doing". Invitation to the summer workshop for students
Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH), Faculty of Architecture (FA), in collaboration with California Polytechnic University (CalPoly), invites students to the Summer Workshop 2025, 9 - 20 June.
The workshop, initiated by the FA, invites students to learn about shell constructions and to design and build a pavilion in Vilnius. The workshop is open to students from Architecture, Design, Civil Engineering and other related fields from all higher education institutions.
The workshop will be led by FA lecturer Šarūnas Petrauskas and CalPoly professor dr. Edmond P. Saliklis: "By sharing my experience, I want to bring the trends of contemporary architecture and engineering in the USA to the Lithuanian academic community. I will introduce participants to the design and construction of Xena forms, explore the basics of the system, look for geometric variations in the forms, and put the knowledge into practice to create sustainable and elegant structures. "Xena Form" embodies a vision of the future of architecture - one that combines form, function and environmental responsibility."
During the workshop, the professor will give lectures on the latest global trends in the field of sustainable constructions, the influence of structures on architectural expression, and will advise students on how to use innovative software to create building structures and architecture. "The workshop will enrich the curricula with an interdisciplinary approach. Students will not only create theoretically, but also implement ideas on a real scale. The international experience gained, reflecting current and future trends and challenges, is invaluable for a young professional", says Petrauskas.
The workshop will take place from 9 - 20 June 2025 and will aim to design and build a shell pavilion that creatively reflects the structural principle and can be easily assembled by hand and transported. The first week of the workshop will include public lectures, group work and hands-on sessions learning different techniques and software. The second week of the workshop will be dedicated to the selection and implementation of the shell structure concept - the construction.
Participation is free of charge for students, but places are limited. The workshop will be held in English. Participants will be awarded 3 ECTS credits after the workshop.
