Study programme aims:
1. Objective of Industrial product design bachelor's study programme is to prepare professionals who are able to implement the latest achievements of high technologies and design, who know and understand fundamentals of industrial engineering and industrial design process, who are qualified to apply basic engineering and design principles for identifying, formulating and solving industrial production problems, is able to create multi-purpose industrial products, to develop their design and technology projects, know how to organize and manage the production of industrial designs, to ensure products' functionality, competitive and high aesthetic level.
2. To develop the broadly educated manufacturing engineer, who are able to think critically, independently and creatively address technical, technological, functional, artistic and administrative issues of industrial production in the context of the global market, to work in a creative team, to understand the impact and importance of their decisions on public development, to improve professional skills and competence through lifelong learning.
 
Prospective study programme results:
Application of knowledge: Z1. Knowledge of mathematics, physics and chemistry and ability to apply them to engineering design activities. Z2. Knowledge of humanities and social science required for engineering activities and to develop erudition and philosophical worldview of the specialist. Z3. General knowledge of technological science, covering the principles of mechanics, material science, electrical and electronics, engineering graphics, and understanding how to use them in engineering activities. Z4. Knowledge of equipment of industrial production, morphology and structure, operational principles, basics of design, manufacturing technology, design and production planning, human resource management, industrial marketing.
Research competencies: GV1. The ability to collect, classify, analyze, synthesize and interpret the data needed to address manufacturing engineering issues. GV2. Ability to understand the latest technology in manufacturing engineering, to investigate the need of industrial product, to analyze the design, manufacturing and operating techniques and predict their marketing and usability.
Special skills and competencies: SG1. The ability to identify the problems in production engineering and to analyze them, ability to design manufacturing processes, to understand their management techniques. SG2. The ability to analyze and design a variety of industrial products, to select the appropriate materials, circuit and processing techniques, to develop the programs of their production, testing, maintenance, to deal with product advertising and marketing issues. SG3. - SG4. Ability to develop industrial design, creatively using morphology, composition and other aesthetic knowledge, principles of visualization, computer aided design capabilities SG5. Ability to perform engineering calculations, developing the necessary design documentation, putting it in correct shape.
Social skills and competencies: CG1. Ability to think critically, independently and creatively address technical, technological, functional, artistic and administrative issues of industrial production. CG2. Ability to work in a creative team, to understand the impact of their decisions on public development. CG3. - Personal skills and competencies AG1. Ability to think critically, independently and creatively, to improve professional competence through lifelong learning.

General description:
Objective (-s) of the study programme: University study programme Industrial Design is an inter-field study programme of a practical character of the second cycle study programme in the field of technological sciences Production and Manufacturing Engineering (E), as the programme of major studies  that unites studies in Production and Manufacturing Engineering of the group of Engineering study fields (E10) and studies in Production and Manufacturing Engineering and Arts, i.e. Design of the group of Art study fields (P02). After completion of the study programme, the graduates are awarded with a degree of Master in Production and Manufacturing Engineering.
 
Study programme aims:
1. To provide the students with recent knowledge in the study fields of Production and Manufacturing Engineering and Arts (Industrial Design) usable as a basis for research works and development and to form competent (in the professional and scholastic aspects), independently and critically thinking highculture masters in Production and Manufacturing Engineering (Design).
2. To form skills required for accomplishment of innovationbased tasks related to tackling the technical problems of production and manufacturing engineering and aesthetical problems of the material environment as well as their harmonization by applying recent research technologies as well as data collection, processing and analysis methods in the interfield context of the mass production industrial design.
3. To form innovative management skills applicable in training or working environment that is bound with Production and Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Design.
4. To form a need of taking an interest in Production and Manufacturing Engineering and Industrial Design innovations, to develop broad erudition, an ability to observe and analyze in a critical way, an ability to understand the influence and importance of own decisions for development of the society, to improve the own qualification and competence by lifelong learning.
 
The learning outcomes: The outcomes of the studies in the programme are formulated on the base of Description of study cycles and conform to the Level VII of Lithuanian Qualification Framework.
 
Teaching and learning activities: The programme, the student-oriented studies are based on the knowledge, skills, abilities, values and attitudes correlating with the actual and future needs of the labour market and those required for evolution of democratic society, so the studies in Industrial design  are organized on the base of:
a) principles of responsibility, accountability, self-guided studies, respect, co-operation, obligation of self-improvement and other principles of organization of higher education;
b) the objectives of the studies based on the outcomes of studies correlating with the National and European Qualification Frameworks for Lifelong Learning;
c) special measures for pursuing the set objectives, such as ECTS system for mobility extending, active teaching and learning methods, quality assurance systems based  on conception of learning outcomes upon recognition of qualifications and the achievements of informal & self-guided learning and so on;
d) studies-related processes, such as involvement of social stakeholders in organization and accomplishment of the process of studies, coordination of support for students upon planning their careers and providing the needed social support.
 
Course units (modules): The total extent of the second cycle Industrial design study programme is 120 credits.
The share of the course units of the programme of major studies (Production and Manufacturing Engineering of the group of Engineering fields, (E)) is 60 credits: Basics of Research and Innovations; Production Management Information Systems; Studies of Commercial Market in the Context of Design; Process of Development of New Products; Production Process Improvement and Innovations; Production Modelling and Industrial Production Systems; Design of Innovative Products (with a course project); Research on Manufacturing Efficiency.
The share of the course units of other study field (Industrial Design of the group of Art fields (P)) is 30 credits: Analysis of Bionics and Other Forms of Avant-gardism; Research on Aesthetic Expression of the Shape of Product; Experimental Design of a Design Object; Product Identity and Presentation; Technical Aesthetics, Ethics and Design (an optional course unit); Co-operation- and Participation-based Industrial Design (an optional course unit).
The share of the Final Master’s Work is 30 credits: Final Master’s Work 1; Final Master’s Work 2; Final Master’s Work 3; Final Master’s Work  4.
 
Access to professional activity:
Graduates from the master study programme in Industrial Design are provided an opportunity to be employed as analysers, project planners, project managers and engineers at industrial enterprises. In addition to the product design creation field, the acquired knowledge and skills enable them to be employed in other activities, such management of product manufacturing process, expert’s examination, production quality control and product management. The graduates are able to tackle complicated problems of harmonization of technical aesthetics in the teamwork environment and those of compatibility of constructional engineering with a product prototype. On the base of the acquired knowledge, the graduates will be able to evaluate a competitiveness of a product and introduce it to the market.
The complex engineering education (including project design) will provide the graduates an opportunity of successful activities in industrial design policy formation, establishing the needs in products and their satisfaction. The graduates will be able to accomplish various tasks related to design and development works as well as manufacturing process management. Graduates awarded with a qualification degree of a master in engineering design may be employed at industrial and service providing enterprises or to embody the ideas the own business ideas.
