HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING
The department was found on the 4th of July 2000 by the statement of VGTU Council with its title “Department of Engineering Architecture”. From September 2008 by the statement of VGTU Council of the 3rd of June 2008 the department title was changed into “Architectural Engineering” as more appropriately reflecting the subject matter of its activities.
The department is profile, its specialization is in architecture and engineering, i.e. specifics of the future professionals is more similar to architects -engineers taught in universities of Lithuania before the World War II. Architectural engineering education aims to teach engineers that have greater breadth than civil engineers in the context of university education that becomes increasingly complemented with humanities and social sciences. Graduates are better prepared to be in charge for the whole project, perform both architectural and structural design of the structure. Specific feature of the undergraduate and graduate studies is that engineering study subjects in the program are accompanied by architectural (artistic) subjects. 2010-2013 year graduated 141 undergraduate students.
In 2004 the graduate program was found in the department. Overall number of the department graduates (retrieved 2013 09 30) is 270 bachelors and 75 masters. 2010-2013 year master graduated 24 students.
