Atliekų tvarkymas yra viena svarbiausių aplinkosaugos sričių siekiant tausoti aplinką ir žmonių sveikatą. Bioskaidžios atliekos netvarkomos arba netinkamai tvarkomos pūva ir į aplinką išskiria teršalus. Didėjant naminių gyvūnų (ypač šunų) kirpyklų paklausai visame pasaulyje, natūralu, kad didėja ir išmetamų gyvūnų kailio priežiūros atliekų kiekiai. Šunų plaukų atliekos gali būti naudojamos siūlų ir termoizoliacinių medžiagų gamybai, filtrų gamybai, kompostuojamos ir kt. Kompostavimas vienas iš priimtiniausių šunų plaukų atliekų, nes jose yra daug azoto (100 gramų plaukų yra apie 15 % azoto), taip pat tai yra vienas iš paprasčiausių būdų kaip galima panaudoti šunų plaukų atliekas. Pagrindiniai kompostavimo proceso parametrai: C, N, C:N santykis, pH, temperatūra, drėgmė, elektrinis laidis, mineralinės medžiagos kiekis, fitotoksiškumas. Atlikus eksperimentinį kompostavimo tyrimą, nustatyta, kad kompostuojant šunų plaukų ir maisto atliekas, gaunamas geros kokybės kompostas. Kompostavimo trukmė 19 savaičių, kompostuojama elektriniame kompostavimo įrenginyje Oklin GG-02, C:N santykis apie 19:1, komposto drėgmė nuo 59,43 % ± 7 % iki 39,5% ± 7 %, pH nuo 4,68 ± 0,71 iki 7± 0,71, elektrinis laidis nuo 1048,5 µS/cm iki 3200 µS/cm.

Waste management is one of the most important environmental areas for protecting the environment and human health. Biodegradable waste, if left unmanaged or improperly managed, decomposes and releases pollutants into the environment. With the increasing demand for pet (especially dog) hairdressing all over the world, it is natural that the amount of discarded animal fur care waste is also increasing. Dog hair waste can be used for the production of yarns and insulation materials, filters, composting etc. Composting is one of the most preferred options for dog hair waste because of its high nitrogen content (100 grams of hair contains about 15% nitrogen) and because it is one of the easiest ways to use dog hair waste. The main parameters of the composting process are: C, N, C:N ratio, pH, temperature, humidity, electrical conductivity, mineral content, phytotoxicity. An experimental study on composting showed that composting of dog hair and food waste produces good quality compost. The composting period was 19 weeks, composting was carried out in an Oklin GG-02 electric composter, with a C:N ratio of approximately 19:1, a moisture content of the compost ranging from 59,43 % ± 7 % to 39,5 % ± 7 %, a pH ranging from 4,68 ± 0,71 to 7 ± 0,71, and an electrical conductivity of between 1048,5 µS/cm to 3200 µS/cm.
