Technical Creativity and Innovation Center
The main purpose of the Technical Creativity and Innovation Center (TCIC) is to educate future engineers about the process of creative construction and engineering, as well as to develop practical knowledge of material property recognition and practical application, tool and equipment operation, theoretical knowledge application in solving real world problems.
The secondary purpose of TCIC is to spread and popularize the profession of an engineer, grow the esteem of the profession while collaborating not only with students of VILNIUS TECH but also with high school students, who are interested in the engineering field.

Activities and history
Technical Creativity and Innovation Center (TCIC) is part of VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Mechanics, and was established in 2015, with a purpose to unite creative people in order to help them make their ideas come to reality. The doors of the center are open not only to students and lecturers of the faculty, but also to anyone who has a spirit for creative engineering.
The activities of the center are organized by Dr. Algimantas Rotmanas

Who can work at the Center?
The Technical Creativity and Innovation Center (TCIC) is usually occupied by students, who are carrying out their course work as well as students conducting their thesis projects. Students work here when the project requires not only designing and engineering, but also prototyping and manufacturing. Both bachelors, masters and doctorates can work and consult inside the center no matter which faculty they study in.
TCIC is a free to access workshop, in which students can work not only on approved projects, but also work on developing their own personal projects. To start working in the Center, you have to contact the manager of the center (Dr. Algimantas Rotmanas) to discuss the project and coordinate the time and conditions needed for it. The center will provide the space, tools and equipment as well as consultation in both subject and methodology.
Materials or specific construction parts are not provided by the center, so the student should provide those themselves.

Technical Capabilities
The technical capabilities of TCIC are constantly increasing. Today, it is possible to perform the most important material processing methods such as: cutting, lathing, milling, drilling, threading, riveting, soldering, sheet metal and pipe bending, sanding, painting, gluing, etc.
For these tasks the Center has almost all needed equipment such as basic electric tools – drills (both corded and not), sanders, angle grinders, saws, soldering irons. The Center also has a CNC router (table dimensions- 600x1200x190 mm), welding station, wood processing equipment – such as one and two side planning bench, a belt and circular blade table saws, belt and circular grinding station.
Inside the center you can also find a metal casting area (meant for casting aluminum and lower melting temperature materials).

TCIC activity focus
- Participation of all students from all degrees, whose course, final projects or research requires making and engineering prototypes, mockups or research stands;
- Engineering knowledge development of both primary and secondary education students. (“Ateities inžinerija” platform, tours, contests, personal projects, etc.;
- Advancement of the engineers profession perception, through participation in faculty or university planned publicity events;
- Collaboration with university partners, such as private business, educational, state institutions.
- Participation in science projects and international engineering concept contests.
- Providing assistance during the invention process, such as: patenting, consulting, expertise patenting.
More information about the Center and its’ work and results can be found inside the yearly TCIC report.
