VILNIUS TECH Faculty of Architecture kindly invites to the Open lecture „REUSE OF MODERN SCHOOLS WITH PEOPLE AND NATURE” by Prof Dr Gonçalo Canto Moniz (University of Coimbra – Portugal) on 8 May 10:00 at auditorium 3.9 (Trakų g. 1, Vilnius).
After the lecture, fourth-year VILNIUS TECH Architecture students will present their proposals for conservation plans for architecture and urban structures. These projects are part of the course on the Protection of Immovable Cultural Heritage.
Gonçalo Canto Moniz is a researcher at the Centre for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra (CES), where he co-coordinates the Research Group Urban Cultures, Sociabilities and Participation. He Graduated on Architecture at the Department of Architecture of Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (DARQ) in 1995, where he is Associate Professor. Obtained his PhD degree in Architecture at the University of Coimbra in 2011, based on his academic thesis Modern Architectural Education, published in Portuguese „O Ensino Moderno da Arquitectura. A Formação do Arquitecto nas Escolas de Belas Artes em Portugal (1931-69)” (FIMS, Afrontamento, 2019). At CES, he coordinates the European project URBiNAT „Healthy corridor as drivers of social housing neighbourhoods for the co-creation of social, environmental and marketable NBS”, supported by H2020 (2018-2024). He also co-coordinates the European project „TRANS-Lighthouses: More than green – Lighthouses of transformative nature-based solutions for inclusive communities”, supported by Horizon europe (2023-2026). At DARQ and CEARQ-TD, he co-coordinates the Research and Intervention Project for the Rehabilitation of José Falcão Secondary School, in Coimbra (2023-2018). He has been publishing about modern architecture, namely about school buildings, architectural education and inclusive urban regeneration. He is a member of the ISC Education and Training of DOCOMOMO International.
