About Institute
Institute of Architecture at Faculty of Architecture
The Institut of Architecture was established on October 5th in 1999. Institute is a subdivision of the the Faculty of Architecture (Vilnius Gediminas Technical University). Since 2010 Institute is headed by prof. Jonas Jakaitis.
Institute was established due to growing demand for professional and methodological expertise in sustainable development of architecture, landscape architecture, the material envirnoment design in urban space, in field of public participation in planning process.
The institut's main objective is to promote the quality of live development of the country and region; to develop the innovative society as well.
Institute also acts as a platform for cooperation of experts (scientists, practitioners and PhD students) in architecture design, teritorial planning, urban design. landscape architecture and related fields within university.
Activities of the Institute of Architecture:

Activities of the Institute of Architecture:
- Constantly carries out research in the fields of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture theory and practice, presents research results in national and international conferences and other events;
- Institute provides public insights and trends about architecture development, public participation and democracy, quality of the material envirnomen design in urban spaces in Lithuania and foreign countries;
- Activity of institute is develop in cooperation with national and foreign scientific institutions such as Lithuanian Science Council, Lithuanian Agency for Science, Innovation and Technology (MITA), Design Council of UK, Czech Science Foundation or other NGO organizations;
- Institute represents Faculty of Architecture in the public discusions araund current issues of architecture development;
- Encourages students who are interested in architecture and design issues, and involves them into the institut’s activities;
- Performs various architecturals research and design projects.
