Discussions about „Green“ Architecture Future

On 25 October, during the republican conference "'Green' Architecture: An Innovative Approach", which took place at Constitution Hall in Seimas Palace, specialists and researchers in the fields of Architecture, Engineering, and Urban planning as well as politicians and practitioners from Lithuania and foreign countries discussed the  issues of sustainable development, "green" architecture, urban planning, and buildings renovation.

Conference participants were welcomed by Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alfonsas Daniūnas, who said that "green" architecture should be viewed as the sustainable development strategy with present and future opportunities for future generations. "The focus of this discussion should be a man. Each of us has an obligation to be the advocate of sustainable development, its strategist and proponent," the Rector said.

The event was organized by Architecture Institute at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University together with Office of the Environmental Protection Committee of the Seimas.

For the first time, the application and selection process of the Sustainable Energy Europe and ManagEnergy awards competitions have been merged. Both schemes are complementary competitions sharing the same ultimate goal: to provide institutional recognition and increase the visibility of best-in-class sustainable energy initiatives. A clear distinction between them nevertheless exists: while the SEE Awards welcome initiatives from the private and public sectors as well as industry associations, academic institutions, NGOs and media, the ManagEnergy Award is expressly designed to reward public authorities and energy agencies at the local and regional level.

For this year’s competition, 224 projects were submitted for the Sustainable Energy Europe Awards. A record 82 applicants were also eligible to participate in the ManagEnergy Awards competition. A panel of independent technical experts has shortlisted a total of 25 projects, ten of which are on the final run for the ManagEnergy Local Energy Action Award.
Although only six will go on stage to collect their well-deserved award, we would like to highlight that each of the 25 shortlisted projects are outstanding initiatives that truly contribute to the EU’s 2020 energy and climate objectives.

Thanks to all 224 participants who submitted a project description. We now invite you to discover the nominees for 2013.

Below you will find a project fact sheet for each of the 25 shortlisted projects, organised by category. ManagEnergy nominees are listed at the end of this page.
