About ComARC
ComARC (International Competence Centre for Autonomous, Remotely Operated and Connected Systems) is a new international R&D centre jointly established by VILNIUS TECH and Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), with Fraunhofer FKIE (Germany) as its lead international partner.
The Centre will develop dual-use technologies for next-generation autonomous, remotely operated and connected air, ground and maritime systems. We are seeking two Principal Scientists to establish and lead its research groups.
The Positions
Each Principal Scientist will lead one of the following thematic research group:
- Electronic & RF Systems and Embedded Applications
Research areas include electronic and RF systems, embedded systems, perception and autonomy algorithms, edge and swarm AI, communications, and cybersecurity. - Uncrewed Platform Designs for Air, Ground, and Sea Domains
Research areas include platform design and dynamics, remote operation, human–machine teaming, mission systems and demonstrators for validation in test environments.
Both positions are full-time and based at VILNIUS TECH in Vilnius, Lithuania. Each Principal Scientist will lead a group of approximately 15 researchers with a three-year budget of around €2.5 million. Responsibilities include setting research priorities, recruiting researchers and doctoral students, overseeing their research activities, and developing competitive R&D funding proposals.
The initial contract will run until August 2029, with the possibility of renewal.
Candidate Qualifications
Candidates should hold a PhD in Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical or Systems Engineering, Computer Science or another field relevant to the research group. They should demonstrate:
- A strong scholarly record, evidenced by high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals and other significant research contributions demonstrating originality, impact and relevance.
- Experience in supervising early-career researchers and/or leading R&D projects and research teams.
A proven ability to attract external research funding and experience in coordinating international research consortia would be an advantage.
Salary and Benefits
- Base gross annual salary of 110,000 Euro, inclusive of two months of paid annual leave.
- Research funding and operational support through VILNIUS TECH facilities.
- Opportunities to combine the research role with an appointment as Professor or Associate Professor, subject to applicable qualifications, with additional remuneration for teaching.
