The Department of Financial Engineering was established in 1993. Since the establishment of the department, Prof Dr A. V. Rutkauskas, currently the department has been headed by Assoc Prof Dr Algita Miečinskienė.
The department's mission is to turn the knowledge created by the department staff and the basics of practical mastery into the power of the knowledge economy, which will allow Lithuania to use its main asset - people's creativity effectively.
The department aims to provide future graduates with high-quality professional knowledge and operational skills during their studies.
The uniqueness of the department is the constant search for close synergies between the creation of innovative knowledge and the fostering of creative activities and research that can provide answers to the most important problems arising in the mentioned activities.
The most important direction of the Department of Financial Engineering's scientific knowledge, generation of innovative learning and fostering of innovative activities are investment systems that can ensure good well-being of the Lithuanian population, the attractiveness of activities and full use of its creative powers, and state and economic independence in the long run.
Over 40 scientific articles are published in the department every year.

In 1993 years estabilished Faculty of Business Management.
In 2001 years Department of Management and Economics was reorganized into five departments: Economics and Management of enterprises, Business Technologies, Social Economics and Business Management, International Economics and Business Management, Finance department.
In November of 2004 Year Department of Finance was renamed into Department of Financial Engineering.
