Lecturer Giedrius Čyras visited Fazer Leipomot Oy in Finland
In March of 2017 Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU) Faculty of Business Management Department of Business Technology lecturer Giedrius Čyras visited Fazer Leipomot Oy (Finland) under the „Partners 4 Value“ program.
Fazer is the leading bakery company in Finland and the Russian major markets of St Petersburg and Moscow. Fazer Bakery also has a strong presence in Sweden and the Baltic countries. Fazer Bakery’s offering is comprehensive, covering freshly baked, pre-packed, frozen and long shelf life bread as well as shop-in-shop operations. Fazer Bakery’s comprehensive offering covers all bread categories, with cherished brands such as Fazer, Oululainen, Skogaholm, Hlebny Dom, Druva and Gardesis. In the confectionery business, Fazer is both a well-established guarantor of quality and an innovative creator of new concepts. The products, sold in more than 40 countries, are produced in four factories located in Finland: Vantaa, Lappeenranta and Karkkila. Fazer Confectionery provides a wide offering, covering every category of confectionery with brands such as Karl Fazer, Tutti Frutti, Dumle, and Geisha.
The aim of the visit was to analyze production and logistic departments work and discuss about the topics, which could be implemented in teaching of disciplines - Industry logistic and Engineering principles, which is taught in Vilnius Gediminas technical university.

Fazer Leipomot Oy in Vantaa near Helsinki has two different sections. One is Fazer Bakeries, another Fazer confectionary. First day of the visit was spent in Fazer Bakeries, meeting human resource department specialist Rita Suhonen, visiting the Bakery, analyzing production system, materials delivery, energetic support of machinery, production planning systems, conveyer work principles, packaging and frozen products lines. Afternoon was planned meeting with senior manager of Logistics Peira Lahde. On the second day it was full day deliveries process analysis, which started at 4 am and did contain 16 different delivery sites, ranked by importance and route planning tasks. Starting from specific packaging options and finishing with returns of delivery boxes, everything was planned to exact minutes or details of full day work. Last day was spent in Fazer confectionery site. During the 3 meetings with Malla Rautelin, director for Logistics; Pekka Autio, senior manager Demand and Supply Planning, Hanna Mari Customers logistic it was discussed about Logistics aspects in Fazer group, how to plan and model work in between different factory’s, how to organize delivery of raw materials, how to organize export sales, new methods and system in Logistics. The meetings have been very important as they help to implement another purpose of the visit - find long term internship possibilities for VGTU students in Fazer Leipomot Oy.
Experience gained during the visit will be integrated into the subjects taught VGTU Business Technology department.
