Samsung trusts VGTU Linkmenų Fabrikas to make their soapbox race vehicle
Over 70 teams will participate in the Red Bull Soapbox race in Kaunas. Fearless Samsung team Galaxy S10 Rocketmen will also attempt to race and will demonstrate their ingenuity. The team’s rocket-shaped soapbox race car in bright colours has been built by a team from Linkmenų Fabrikas at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University.
“We have chosen digital manufacturing technologies to make a model of the rocket. First, a 3D model had been created, then we have designed construction units of the chassis and made the rocket’s body. The biggest challenge was to make the biggest possible soapbox-rocket taking into account three important aspects – safety, strength and weight. The weight of soapboxes in the race must be under 80 kg. We love challenges like this one, it makes our job even more interesting,” says Karolina Vaikšnytė, designer at VGTU’s Linkmenų Fabrikas.
The soapbox-rocket is exhibited at shopping mall Akropolis in Kaunas. It will be publicly displayed until the day of the race. The Red Bull Soapbox Race will take place on Sunday, 15 September. The race starts at 12:00 on Parodos hill.
