VGTU is creating an inspiring space for business ideas
Vilnius Gediminas technical University (VGTU) is investing six million Litas for the establishment of “LINK MENU factory“, the first Product design, innovations and cultural industries centre. Students will be given every opportunity to test their ideas in practice and receive necessary consultations for the establishment of their business.
“LINK MENU factory“, the innovation competence centre of creative industries, will assist students in generating, developing and improving their business ideas. The centre will become the exhibition space for students’ scientific, technical and artistic works. The centre will host the premises, equipped for practical implementation of creative ideas and tasks as well as making prototypes, which will be further developed there.
‘‘At the centre all necessary pre-incubation services will be offered: specialists will provoke students’ creativity, examine their ideas, and consult during the prototype creation process. Innovations, created while merging artistic and engineering decisions, is a new phenomenon both in Lithuania and all over the world, so many activities are waiting for us,‘‘- says Žilvinas Jančoras, “LINK MENU factory“ project leader, lector of Creative Industries Faculty at VGTU.
“LINK MENU factory“ is being created together with a partner from the United Kingdom – Edinburgh Napier University, which actively promotes innovations, applying them in business already for more than 15 years. Experience of other higher education centres will be also taken into consideration. Massachusetts University of Technology in the USA, the best world university, and Aalto University in Finland have such centres.
The goal of the project is to promote Lithuanian innovations all over the world: its infrastructure will improve the quality of studies, scientific research and experimental development of creative industries as well as preparation of new specialists for Lithuania, skilful in the processes of innovation creation, development and implementation.
“LINK MENU factory“ activities will attract the most creative people, reveal their potential and stimulate creation of innovations. The establishment of new enterprises, the starters, which create high added value, will contribute to the growth of our economy, ‘‘– states Ž. Jančoras.
Agency of Science, Innovations and Technologies (ASIT) stated, that according to the number of created and implemented innovations, Lithuania made the best progress among the countries of the European Union (EU) in 2013. In the EU initiatives ‘‘Innovations’ Union“, for the first time Lithuania entered the group of moderate innovators, while earlier it belonged to the group of poor innovators.
The opening of “LINK MENU factory“ in Linkmenų Street is planned for 2015.
