DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AND CULTURAL STUDIES
The department is responsible for the teaching of worldview (A block) study subjects throughout VILNIUS TECH, and also conducts research in the fields of Philosophy and Cultural studies. It organizes a bi-annual international conference on issues of Visuality and hosts a yearly national conference in association with the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Social Research, and the Lithuanian Communication Society. Two research journals, “Creativity Studies” and “Santalka: Philosophy, Communication” were established by the department, in which peer-reviewed articles by Lithuanian and foreign scholars are published. The academic and research staff of the department make regular contributions to Lithuanian media, including the Internet, television, press, and radio.
History
The Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies is one of the oldest at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VILNIUS TECH). It dates back to 1956 to the establishment of Vilnius Institute of Engineering Construction with the Department of Comprehensive Theses. Following the creation of the Faculty of Creative Industries in 2012, the Department was reorganized into Philosophy and Communication (2015) and in 2017 its name was changed to the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Studies.
