This Weekend at VILNIUS TECH Yard – A Unique Light Art Spectacle

When we think about technological progress and the future, one of the recurring visions is the increasingly common use of holographic imagery. While the true beginnings of holography can be traced back to the 18th century with the first demonstrations of Pepper’s Ghost illusions, the mid-20th century is often regarded as the starting point of modern holograms. Pepper’s Ghost was a technique used to create ghostly silhouettes on stage by projecting light at a 45-degree angle onto a transparent surface, producing the illusion of a phantom that didn’t actually exist in real life. This phenomenon became the foundation of holographic imagery, blurring the lines between real and imagined objects (or spaces). Reflecting on the evolution of these illusions, one might wonder: which aspects of reality can we trust this time?

From January 24 to 26, during the Vilnius Light Festival, the VILNIUS TECH yard (Pylimo St. 26) will host Ghost of Space, a holographic installation by young Lithuanian artists Elektroplazma & Roma Salė. This piece invites visitors to explore the boundaries between illusion and reality and to reflect on how future technologies might transform human perception.
