Research
The staff of the department works in the following research fields:
- Analysis and modeling of biocompatible materials.
- Measurements and quantification of human motion parameters.
- Research and development of measurement and diagnostic methods for human motion analysis.
- Development of diagnostic and therapeutic methods for motor disorders.
- Quantification of treatment and rehabilitation effectiveness.
- Quantitative evaluation of athlete excellence.
- Research and development of technical aids for the disabled.
- Adapting the environment for physically, visually and hearing impaired persons.
- Research and development of biomechatronical equipment (smart wearable technologies, exoskeletons, rehabilitation robotics, active limb prostheses).
- Measurement, analysis and processing of biosignals.
- Design and modeling of individual implants.
- Numerical analysis of cardiovascular dynamics for surgical planning.
BIOMDLORE (BIOmechanics, Medical Diagnostics, LOcomotion and REhabilitation) – is an international conference, organized mainly by the Department of Biomechanical Engineering and Białystok University of Technology (Poland).
The scope of the conference is focused on the various issues of biomedical engineering: human body biomechanics, gait and posture, orthopedics and traumatology, assistive technologies, rehabilitation engineering, medical diagnostics, biosignal processing, mathematical modeling, sports biomechanics, and robotics in healthcare.
BIOMDLORE was first held at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University in 1999. The first editions of the series were organized solely by the academic staff of the Department of Biomechanical Engineering as one-day scientific seminars. In 2006, scientists from Białystok University of Technology joined the organizers, and BIOMDLORE transformed into the international conference which was held for the first time in Białystok. Since then, BIOMDLORE is held either in Lithuania or in Poland.
Starting with the 2016 edition, it was decided to hold a conference every two years. BIOMDLORE 2016 was held in Druskininkai (Lithuania) and BIOMDLORE 2018 was organized in Białystok. BIOMDLORE 2020 was planned to be held on October 22–24, 2020 in Trakai (Lithuania), however, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was postponed to 2021.
The 2021 BIOMDLORE conference took place in Vilnius. It was organized in a hybrid way, with more than 40 participants giving live presentations at the „Crowne Plaza Vilnius“ Hotel, and 11 remotely. A total of 8 countries participated in the conference (USA, Canada, Spain, Italy, Poland, Latvia and Lithuania). The Young Scientist Award was presented for the first time. The next conference will take place in 2023 in Poland.
