Blended Intensive Program (BIP) in Vilnius (Lithuania). “Modern Engineering in Transport”

BIP (Blended Intensive Programme) is short intensive programmes involving a combination of physical and virtual mobility to facilitate teamwork and exchange of experiences on the basis of collaborative e-learning.

You will learn by doing, experiencing where there are differences and similarities in European cultures.

During theoretical and practical classes, students will be introduced to the problems of construction, operation, and diagnostics in modern technologies, which are being used in transmissions and hydraulic drives of various types of vehicles. The course encompasses the analysis of various modern technologies which are being used in various types of light and heavy vehicles, mobile machinery, etc. In the course the main attention is focused on the analysis of various types of transmissions (arrangement of the transmission, clutches and gearboxes, CVTs) and hydraulic drives. The relation between transmission and hydraulic drives is also taken into consideration. The best part is that the week will be held onsite in VILNIUS TECH (Vilnius, Lithuania), so you will get the chance to meet your teachers and team members face-to-face.

Date:
25.09.2023-01.10.2023 Online week.
01.10.2023-07.10.2023 Contact week.

If you stay at a single place all your life, you will never grow, but you will grow stale for sure. This is an old saying that holds true even in the 21st Century. Transportation engineering has made it possible to move from one place to another, from one country to another, or even from the Earth to beyond our atmosphere. Transport engineering has had a significant impact on the development of communities and extreme importance for the economy of a society. The course aims at developing the sustainability mindset of engineering as emerging leaders in engineering organizations to lead modern technical change in the organizations. The course will encourage a move from the reductionist attitude to the adoption of a system approach to solving technical problems that that are faced with in modern transport.

What to expect:
- Lectures and interactive workshops with experts in the field of Transport engineering.
- Working in small teams with fellow students from other countries and faculties to take up engineering challenges.
- Social activities in the relaxed atmosphere. It is easy to make new friends!

Registration has ended.

THE GOAL AND PURPOSE

If you stay at a single place all your life, you will never grow, but you will grow stale for sure. This is an old saying that holds true even in the 21st Century. Transportation engineering has made it possible to move from one place to another, from one country to another, or even from the Earth to beyond our atmosphere. Transport engineering has had a significant impact on the development of communities and extreme importance for the economy of a society. The course aims at developing the sustainability mindset of engineering as emerging leaders in engineering organizations to lead modern technical change in the organizations. The course will encourage a move from the reductionist attitude to the adoption of a system approach to solving technical problems that are faced with in modern transport.

During the virtual component of the BIP program students will have an opportunity to listen to lectures related to the challenges in modern transport applications. After finishing virtual classes, students will receive tasks to be delivered and presented on physical components. In this way, students will be obligated to “think-create-present” their idea and compare it with other participants from different countries and universities.

For a final week of the blended course, students will join physical component in Vilnius, Lithuania. Students will be introduced to the transmissions and hydraulic drives of various types of vehicles and challenges faced in modern transport engineering. Students will work in team groups with the opportunity to share or compare their ideas, solutions, or questions to improve their creativity, engineering, presentation and communication skills.

Along with the lectures, students will enjoy mutual collaboration accompanied with official visits to the companies in the field of transport engineering. Cultural activities are also an important part of this blended program by social activities in the relaxed atmosphere. It is easy to make new friends!

PARTICIPANTS

Participants of the BIP program “Modern Engineering in Transport” are teachers and students from the main three (3) different countries (Lithuania, Poland and Croatia, participants from other countries are also very welcome).

This variety of teachers and students will enable all participants to develop on an educational and personal level. The BIP program encourages students to accept and understand an array of different cultural and community perspectives through learning and knowledge.

Students’ teamwork and interaction on the presented ideas along with the lectures from teachers with different nationalities, educational backgrounds and expertise will encourage students to develop independent opinions, make informed decisions and strive to create new ideas.

VIRTUAL COMPONENT

Virtual component will be held on 25-29/09/2023. Lectures will be held in the evenings at 17:00 pm Eastern European Summer Time (EEST) in order to allow all students online gatherings in time with no other university obligations. The time slots remain the same for every day of virtual course. During the remaining time slots, students will do self-study or work together with other students in a team. You and your team can then decide for yourselves when you will work on your assignments.

PHYSICAL COMPONENT

Physical component will be held form October 2th-8th 2023 in Vilnius, Lithuania. The host of physical component is Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, Faculty of Transport Engineering.

CERTIFICATE

Upon successful completion of course requirements, participants will receive a certificate of participation. This certificate states the grade you have received in the „Modern Engineering in Transport” course.

TEACHING METHODS

Students will participate in online and physical lectures, which will be provided by lecturers with different international specializations in the field of transport engineering. Works will be carried-out in small teams with fellow students from other countries and faculties to take up engineering challenges.

In addition, creative and contemporary teaching and learning methods, such as problem-based learning, teamwork and project tasks, will be applied to establish a collaborative work environment and to enable students to learn from both lecturers and each other.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

– Lectures and interactive workshops with experts in the field of Transport engineering.
– The program will include both theoretical classes and practical workshops that will allow students to gain practical experience in modern transport engineering field.
– Understand and apply the basic knowledge on modern technologies, which are being used in transmissions and hydraulic drives of various types of vehicles.
– Obtain a knowledge in the international teamwork groups and presentation methods.
