First-Year Students Prove in Their First Week: They Care About More Than Just a Diploma

Within just the first few days of September, as many as 679 first-year students voluntarily joined the VILNIUS TECH digital badge system. That’s more than half of all newly admitted students showing interest in the world of digital badges right from the start of their studies. They explored how they can collect badges throughout their academic journey by developing competencies and discovering their strengths.

“During Integration Week, while presenting the badge system, an interesting trend became apparent – only 1 in 10 first-year students enters university already thinking about the importance of core competencies such as communication, creativity, teamwork, sustainability, or critical thinking. That’s exactly why our badge system matters – it helps students realize that growth isn’t just about earning a diploma. It’s also about gaining competencies that shape their future,” says Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ingrida Leščauskienė, Head of the VILNIUS TECH Digital Badge System.

This year, it’s especially encouraging that participants included both bachelor’s and master’s students, from Lithuania and abroad, and from nearly all university faculties. They actively took part in the “Discover VILNIUS TECH” competition, which revealed some of the most engaged students during their very first week.

The winners of the competition will receive VILNIUS TECH merchandise – T-shirts, caps, and mugs. Prizes can be collected on September 8–9 at Room 507, 5th floor, Central Building (S1), Saulėtekio al. 11, during the long break (13:45–14:30).
