We invite you to read the new textbook prepared by the faculty researchers
We are pleased to present the newly released textbook "Intelligent Technologies in Transport" by Professors Dr. Nijolė Batarlienė and Dr. Aldona Jarašūnienė from the Department of Logistics and Transport Management, which spans 533 pages.
This textbook is highly relevant given the increasing traffic congestion caused by the continuous growth of car numbers and the rising flows of goods and passenger transportation. These issues are among the biggest in the transport sector across the European Union, and they are also pertinent to Lithuania. Road congestion and constant traffic jams not only cause logistical problems but also contribute to environmental pollution and pose traffic safety risks.
According to a Global Road Congestion Study prepared by the European Commission, it has been determined that the transport sector accounts for as much as 72% of the total carbon dioxide emissions in the EU. Additionally, more than 40,000 people die on EU roads each year, and economic losses from traffic congestion reach up to 1.5% of GDP. In response to these problems, EU member states recognize that Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are a key solution to reduce traffic jams, pollution, increase road safety, and improve the quality of public transport services.
The textbook explores advanced ITS solutions that could help address these issues and promote sustainable development in the transport sector. International cooperation and knowledge-sharing with other countries and organizations also play an important role. The development strategy of Lithuania's transport system also includes the implementation of advanced technologies, with ITS playing a particularly significant role in this strategy.
The textbook will provide students with the latest and comprehensive practical knowledge about intelligent technologies in transport. The book is intended not only for transport engineering and logistics students but also for students from other economics and management programs to help them better understand these important and cutting-edge technologies in transport. At the end of each chapter, there are control questions to deepen knowledge and assess understanding.
We hope that this textbook will be useful not only for students but also for anyone interested in deepening their knowledge of intelligent technologies in the transport sector and their application in the real world.
