Department of Mobile Machinery and Railway Transport

The aim of the department is to train high-level specialists in mobile machinery and railway transport, who have sufficient basic knowledge of the specialty and are able to apply it in their future practical activities.

The mission of the department is to foster academic values, form a community of teachers, students and social partners, and strive for the maximum meaning of academic activities at the university, national and global levels.
The Department of Mobile Machinery and Railway Transport trains 3-level specialists: bachelors, masters and doctoral students

HISTORY

The Department of Transport Technological Equipment was established in 1985 Vilnius Institute of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Technology. The department was then called the Department of Construction and Road Machinery. Its first leader was Professor Bronislovas Spruogis, a habilitated doctor.

From 1991 to 1995, now at Vilnius Technical University, the department at the Faculty of Mechanics is called the Department of Road Construction Machinery. 1994 with the establishment of the Faculty of Transport Engineering, the department was renamed the Department of Transport Technological Equipment. Since 1995 The head of the department is Professor Habilitated Doctor Marijonas Bogdevičius.

The Department of Transport Technological Equipment trains qualified specialists who teach the development, operation, design, research of transport machines, equipment and transport technological systems. Our graduates are able to solve the tasks of improvement, development, design, operation, diagnostics and repair of various systems and technologies of road transport machinery, road construction and maintenance, lifting and transportation, mining and construction machinery and equipment, technological pipelines and work organization.

In 2017 The Department of Transport Technological Equipment has merged with the Department of Railway Transport, the new name is the Department of Mobile Machinery and Railway Transport.

STUDIES

Railway transport engineering

Rail transport in the world is currently experiencing a revival. Train travel is not only cost-effective, but also more energy efficient, often safer than other modes of transport and less harmful to nature. Railways are seen as a vital component of an integrated transport system for a sustainable society of the future, so the need for specialists with expertise in railway infrastructure, vehicles, traffic and its management is growing.
Graduates of this specialization will be able to research, diagnose, forecast and optimize railway transport and its infrastructure machines, equipment, technological processes. Such engineers will know the dynamics and diagnostics of rolling stock, the energy of railway transport.

Transport machinery and equipment.

The Lithuanian transport sector includes not only cars and rail transport, but also high-capacity, energy-intensive and expensive road construction and maintenance, lifting and transportation machinery, mining and construction machinery, and traffic flows and technological pipelines.
Particular attention is paid to reducing the energy loss of these machines, increasing productivity, predicting residual resources and longevity, and using and managing new information technologies.
These problems require knowledge of the properties of new materials, an understanding of physical processes, knowledge of modern research methods and tools, and the ability to apply them. Highly qualified specialists are in demand both in Lithuania and abroad.
