Department of Mathematical Modelling
The Department of Mathematical Modelling was established in 1995 by dividing the Department of Mathematics into two. The head of the department was prof. habil. dr. Raimondas Čiegis.
- The main goals of the department are twofold: to train specialists in the mathematics profile in the Modern Technology Mathematics undergraduate study program and to teach general and special mathematics courses to students of various specialties of other university faculties and study programs.
- Research interests of the Department of Mathematical Modelling are numerical methods of solving differential equations and mathematical modelling of complex engineering and technology problems.

The main goals of the department are two: to prepare specialists in the mathematics profile in the "Modern Technology Mathematics" undergraduate study program (see "Modern Technology Mathematics") and to teach general and special mathematics courses to students of various specialties of other university faculties and study programs.
-
Research interests of the Department of Mathematical Modelling are numerical methods of solving differential equations and mathematical modelling of complex engineering and technology problems.
The department implements the basic study program "Mathematics of Modern Technologies".

Studies
In today's world modern man can no longer imagine everyday life without a computer, a smartphone, and often a smart TV. We use modern technologies both at work and at rest. By pressing the phone buttons - just using a single mobile device - we make doctor's appointments, shop around, plan trips, look for entertainment.
Products and services based on modern information technology are no longer a rare exception – they are the norm. The world is going crazy over cryptocurrency, a digital (virtual) currency that allows banks or other intermediaries to avoid making anonymous payments online. This is just one of the modern technologies based on the block chain principle.
The potential power of this technology is significantly greater. It can be and is used in the banking and financial industries, even for healthcare or during elections.
Lecturers of the Department of Mathematical Modelling in cooperation with social partners (UAB Affecto Lietuva and AB Telia Soneros AB belonging to the Telia Soneros Group) and the Departments of Information Systems and Information Technologies have prepared a new first cycle study program in Modern Technologies Mathematics, which is accredited by SKVC or five years.
The program was launched in 2017. September 1st thanks to everyone who helped develop this program. Those interested in the study program are invited to read more.
You can find more about the program here.
