Folk dance Group „Vingis"
Folk dance group "Vingis", founded in 1962/63, is forever young. When the time comes some students leave the collective only to be replaced by the new members – this is the secret of this collective's youth. The ensemble has two independent groups of dancers and a folk band which plays traditional instruments. "Vingis" loves giving fun performances, playing colourful pieces and sharing good mood on stage with the audience. This collective has turned into a sort of social club, whose activities brought students closer together and turned their leisure time into an authentic lifestyle. Once a year all-time members of ‘Vingis’, former and current, meet for a traditional camping event at the university's practice base near Skrebė, Aukštadvaris. Other traditions include "Evening of Acquaintance", "Reporting Meeting" and "Christenings". The activities of the collective are partly organised by students themselves, which makes it a significant experience for young people.
"Vingis" ensemble performs in the country as well as abroad and is the winner of several competitions. The band participated in festivals along with professional performers, whom “Vingis” often surpassed. These days when there is an opportunity to choose every year "Vingis" tries to go to places it hasn’t been before or participate in festivals organised by international organisations. Members of “Vingis” always attempt to make every encounter with the audience into a small celebration of national art, which enlightens the performers as well as the crowd and educates through the spirit of friendship and patriotism.
