E-books about Sustainable Tourism from EBSCO eBook Academic Collection
Summer is a time for rest and vacation. During this season, people often choose various activities and trips to relax, explore new places, and enjoy the warm weather. There are greater opportunities to engage in different activities – relaxing by the sea, lakes, traveling to the mountains, exploring the culture and unique nature of foreign countries, visiting historically significant sites, or simply enjoying the pleasures of wellness resorts and spas. This is summer tourism, which each of us understands in our own way. However, it is important to remember that leisure or other recreational activities should not have a negative impact on the environment, and tourism should be sustainable, no matter which part of the world we are vacationing in. To achieve this goal, we need to strive to minimally impact the environment, support local communities, and preserve natural and cultural resources for future generations. The main principles of sustainable tourism allow us to enjoy vacations while also contributing to the preservation of the environment and culture:
- Reduce negative impacts on nature and ecosystems. This can include waste reduction, sorting, saving electricity and water, and prioritizing the use of recyclable or organic materials.
- Preserve the culture and heritage of the visited country, as it is necessary to respect and protect the local cultural heritage, including historical monuments, architecture, local traditions, and lifestyle.
- Show interest in the country's environment and culture, choosing local products and services so that tourism provides long-term benefits to local communities, reducing poverty and promoting economic development.
Responsibly plan and manage tourism activities, considering the capacities of the environment and communities, to avoid overtourism and its negative impacts.
Sustainable tourism strives to find a balance between economic benefits, environmental protection, and social responsibility, aiming to ensure the long-term development of the tourism sector without harming future generations. On this topic, the library offers several e-books available in our university's subscribed database EBSCO eBook Academic Collection.
