Library services. A guide for beginners
During the training, you will get acquainted with the services and procedures of the VILNIUS TECH Library and reading rooms in the faculties, library resources and search engines. You will learn where and how to find the information you need for studying and how to use library services and systems. The training covers:
- Introduction to the functions and services of the central library and reading rooms;
- Information retrieval sources, library information resources;
- Searching for, ordering, issuing, renewing, and returning publications;
- Virtual library, BUS information bridge, and others.
Searching for scientific information for written works
You will learn about effective literature search techniques and strategies, how to select appropriate sources and methods of information retrieval, how to analyse and organise the results, and how to conduct an accurate search for the information you need for your studies.
The training cover:
- VILNIUS TECH Library Information Resource Systems (e-catalogue, Virtual Library, databases, Information Bridge BUS, and others.);
- Search strategies;
- Stages of information retrieval such as defining the need for information and the scope of the search, selection of keywords and search tools, and selection and retention of search results.
Mendeley: An information management tool
During the training, you will learn about the bibliographic records management software Mendeley. You will learn how to install the software, create an account, upload, save and manage records, cite literature and create reference lists.
The training covers:
- A brief introduction to bibliographic information management tools and their purpose;
- How to get started with Mendeley, an overview of its functionality;
- Examples of citation and reference list building with Mendeley.
