Immigration Regulations / Health Insurance
Students should check whether a visa is required to enter Lithuania here.
-
For mobility periods up to 90 days, a Schengen (C) visa must be obtained.
-
For mobility periods longer than 90 days, a National (D) visa is required.
Applications for a National (D) or Schengen (C) visa must be submitted online through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS).
Students are required to complete the application form and provide digital copies of all requested documents.
- Legal entity code: 111950243
- The title: Vilnius Gediminas Technical University
Students must include the mediation letter number in their visa application.
The VILNIUS TECH International Relations Office issues mediation letters upon request only. Requests should be submitted by email below.
❗ Mediation letters are issued ONLY to accepted students.
After submitting the visa application, students must schedule an appointment at one of the following institutions:
-
an authorized visa application centre, or
-
the Embassy of Lithuania, or
-
the Lithuanian Migration Department (if legally residing in Lithuania).
Students must attend the appointment in person to provide biometric data, submit original documents, and address any visa-related matters.
❗ Early appointment booking is strongly recommended, as visa processing times may be longer than expected.
All international students are obliged to bring medical insurance valid in Lithuania for the whole study period.
Health insurance must guarantee:
- Reimbursement of emergency medical expenses;
- Repatriation in case of illness or accident.
The sum insured must be at least EUR 30,000.
Citizens of EU/EEA countries and Switzerland may enter Lithuania without a visa.
For mobility periods longer than 90 days, students are required to obtain a Certificate of Temporary Residence and declare their place of residence in Lithuania.
Further information can be found on the Migration Department’s website.
Students coming from the EU/EEA countries are required to have European health insurance card (EHIC) or form E111, confirming that student has EU health insurance.
❗ We strongly recommend also having additional private health insurance, as EHIC does not cover all costs (e.g., repatriation, private clinics).
Mentor / Buddy Programme
Erasmus Student Network (ESN) at VILNIUS TECH is a non-governmental, student-run organization – a part of the largest student network in Europe, operating independently and voluntarily.
What ESN VILNIUS TECH does:
- Coordinates the Mentor Programme with the International Relations Office;
- Organizes some of Orientation Days activities;
- During the semester invites students to participate in many social and leisure activities – trips, cultural evenings, sports events, quiz nights and many others.
VILNIUS TECH offers a Mentor Programme that pairs exchange students with a local VILNIUS TECH student volunteer.
A mentor can help:
- Settle in
- Integrate into local culture
- Receive practical advice and support
How it works:
- If you would like to be assigned a Mentor, complete the Mentor registration form sent with your Letter of Acceptance.
- Your Mentor will contact you as soon as possible, but no earlier than one month before the semester starts.
