    Business Communication

    Module aim

    Students acquire knowlege in business communication and are able to apply it in practice.

    Module description

    The course on Business Communication (BC) consists of two parts: theoretical and practical. Students get acquainted with fundamental concepts and features of BC that influence communication efficiency, communication barriers, ways of eliminating them, means and ways to make communication more efficient, to address, analyse and critically assess different issues of ineffective communication, solve them in a rational way by verbal and nonverbal means in different communicative situations: during meetings, discussions, debates, public speaking, group work, employment interviews, conflicts. Practical tasks are individual and group:, meetings, negotiations, job application supporting documents employment interviews, field research, etc.
    Participation in at least 60% of the scheduled exercises and 50% of the lectures is mandatory.

    Psychology of Entertainment

    Module aim

    To help better understand the process of entertainment and creativity, its conditions, to learn about your own creativity and other persons’ creativity and to be able to encourage it. To analyze peculiarities happening in entertainment and creativity processes, psychic peculiarities of communication in art works and art language, to create conditions to develop personal creativity.

    Module description

    The module”Psychology of entertainment” is integral course. It contains different concepts and notions of creativity and entertainment psychology. General laws of psychic actvity and their expressions in entertainment are revealed.The system of personality values and its influence on choosing creative activities is analyzed. A modern conception of J. Mureika’s feeling and its possibilities explaining cultural phenomenon is analyzed.The introduction to the most important themes of entertainment and art psychology: colour, music, dance free movement and improvisation), peculiarities of psychology.Special attention is paid to the differences between talent and genius and their influence in entertainment industry.

    Module aim

    To introduce the main methods of digital image processing, with main algorithms and their practical realization. To gain skills to work with the most powerful and popular image processing software and get to know the exclusive features of the program.

    The course deals with digital imaging technologies. It acquaints with digital video concepts, tools, elements. The following are examined in more detail: a) Peculiarities of raster and vector graphics and their application in different media. b) Peculiarities of human visual perception. c) Colour and its standards and correction in the digital space. d) Interaction of a digital image with time. e) Principles of extracting and processing complex digital images and their application in different media. f) Integration of the creative process with digital imaging technologies.

    Module aim

    To introduce the knowledge about social reality, to help to understand a sociological view towards society, it’s structure and processes, which influence individual’s socialization, people inter- relations, social action and collaboration.

    The course analyzes the subject of sociology, methods, laws’ structure, its categories and position among humanitarian disciplines. Special attention is paid to the development of a social process, its standards and emerging peculiarities. The course also presents relation between sociological theory and research.

    Module aim

    The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the specialty of entertainment industries studied.

    Module description

    The course of “introduction of the speciality” is an introductory subject of studies designed to acquaint the VILNIUS TECH and the subject of the entertainment industry, study programme and work perspectives. The focus is on discussing the nature of the specialisations of ” entertainment producer ” and “sports industries” and the role of these specialists in the entertainment industries. The course examines the relevance of entertainment industries in the current entertainment society.

    Mass Communication

    Module aim

    The course aims to familiarize with the classical and modern theories of mass communication, a review of the most important means of mass communication theories and methodological problems studied. Historical development of mass communication theories overview.

    Module description

    To introduce the mass communication theories, their problems, old and new media, and their interaction. Understand what separates and share new media with the old, the traditional media. Find out what are the signs of new media and how it changes the traditional concepts of mass communication; new media as part of a research in mass communication research field.
    Coursework consists of theoretical-descriptive and critical, analytical parts (estimated at 33.3 percent.). The student chooses one of mass communication theory, it describes from the scientific literature, and later analyzed on the basis of the theory of criticism in the scientific literature and provide the overall picture, as far as theory is relevant today as it has changed, what can be studied on the basis of the theory today. Participation in at least 60% of the scheduled exercises and 50% of the lectures is mandatory

    Module aim

    This course will provide students with such knowledge:
    1) Terminology and definitions used in audiovisualy industry;
    2) Script structure & dramaturgy; Industry standart script formatting;
    3) Audio and video equipment – theoretical knowledge ant practical skills;
    4) Video editing – basics of using Adobe Premiere software;
    5) Film crew: Roles and responsibilities;
    6) Various media forms (advertising, music video clips, etc.) and their application.

    Module description

    “Media production” provides students with a general knowledge on audiovisual arts industry. Module introduces all stages of film production – development, production, editing and postproduction. Students gain theoretical and practical
    knowledge on using audio and video equipment, develop practical video editing, scriptwriting skills.
    Students must attend at least 80% of the time scheduled practical lectures and at least half of the lectures at the scheduled times.

    Module aim

    Introduce the theoretical and practical basics of producing a creative project. To develop the ability to prepare a creative project and to organise the activities of a creative team in all stages of the project: pre-production, production and post-production.

    The module involves the exploration of copyright rights and related rights among other types of intellectual properties, development of Copyright Law and its sources in Lithuania and other countries, the peculiarities of different types of copyrights and related rights, their subjects, objects, protection and implementation of copyrights.

    Entertainment Industry studies

    Module aim

    To introduce to the main entertainment industries, to develop the ability to conduct theoretical research in the field of entertainment industries and to develop creativity skills in making decisions in the field of entertainment industries.

    Module description

    The course introduces students to the main entertainment industries. Attention is paid to the presentation of the basics, origins and history of the entertainment industries. The entertainment industries are presented as specific business sectors based on appropriate communication strategies. From a socio-cultural perspective, the main entertainment industries, based on their contemporary classifications, are in turn further subdivided into certain segments: 1. Electronic media as entertainment includes a. cinema (films), b. television, c. radio as an entertainment industry; 2. Arts and leisure as entertainment include a. theater, b. music, c. museum, d. theme parks as entertainment industries; 3. Recreation as entertainment includes a. spectator sports; b. travel and tourism, c. shopping as entertainment industries; 4. Interactive entertainment includes a. gambling and casino clubs; b. video and computer/online games as entertainment industries; 5. Communication as entertainment includes a. publishing, b. event planning as entertainment industries. The course analyzes the relationship between different entertainment industries, examines their possible connections and interactions. The course also examines the entertainment industry from the perspective of theoretical and creative thinking.

    Aesthetics

    Module aim

    The objective of this course is to introduce students to fundamental theories of aesthetics and philosophy of art, illuminating how art, beauty, and aesthetic experience have been conceptualized across various historical periods and intellectual perspectives. The course aims at familiarizing students with diversity of artistic phenomena and fostering a capacity for critical reflection on artworks, their meaning, functions, and societal impact. Furthermore, students are encouraged to reflect upon their personal aesthetic experiences within the context of contemporary culture.

    Module description

    During theoretical lectures of this course, the artwork is examined as the object of inquiry within aesthetics and philosophy of art. The course analyses the material and intentional origin of the artwork, a concept of aesthetic distance, distinctions between classical, modern, and contemporary aesthetics. Concepts of beauty are discussed in the framework of subjectivist and objectivist aesthetic theories.
    Primary focus is directed toward the problem of defining art within diverse theoretical perspectives. In order to illustrate various theoretical concepts, specific examples of artworks are presented to examine cognitive, expressive, formalist, polyfunctional, and postmodern theories of art.
    Equally, the course analyses characteristics of aesthetic experience, processes of art perception, and mechanisms of creativity. Factors influencing artistic creativity-such as imagination, intuition, talent, play, and improvisation-are examined alongside the social, political, and cultural phenomena that catalyse artistic production. The role of art is discussed within varying cultural and historical contexts, emphasizing its significance for the contemporary individual.
    During practical seminars, students analyse theoretical texts, apply theoretical knowledge to the evaluation of artworks, prepare concise theoretical presentations, visit museums and art galleries, and reflect upon their personal aesthetic experiences.

    History of Art

    Module aim

    Module aims to present development of visual art starting the most ancient and finishing with contemporary times and highlight the main periods of art history. Students will be familiarized with main tendencies of various historical periods (Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Modernism) of Lithuanian visual art. Main periods of art history and most famous artworks will be presented. Development of art styles is discussed chronologically sociocultural ground is discussed.

    Module description

    Module of art history presents development of visual art from prehistoric periods till postmodern art. It is shown why the development of art was interesting for the Western artists and the creators of entertainment industries. Western art is presented coherently – ancient, medieval Romanian (Normanian) and Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Romantic art styles are analyzed. Reflections from various styles in modern art and contemporary culture and entertainment industries are analyzed. Main attention is focused toward contemporary art, which is extremely topical for future representatives of culture and entertainment industries. Therefore art styles such as Impressionism, Postimpressionism, surrealism, cubism, futurism, abstractionism, hyperealism, pop-art.

    Module aim

    To help students develop linguistic and communicative skills, acquire knowledge according to CEFR C1 level in order to communicate spontaneously both in written and spoken forms on daily, cultural and professional topics.

    Module description

    During the Academic German Language course students reach a high enough (C1) level of German that is necessary for studies in an academic institution. It is an integrated skills course that develops students’ abilities in reading, writing, listening and speaking in an academic context. It will enable students to prepare assignments or write up a research paper in German, to participate in tutorials and seminars conducted in German.

    Module aim

    To get knowledge and skills necessary for doing quantitative research.

    Module description

    The course provides students with an opportunity to become familiar with the theoretical basics of quantitative research methods, learn about the purpose and specifics of quantitative research, and become familiar with data collection in quantitative research. Students conduct quantitative research: they develop a research program, collect data and analyze it. Students prepare a research report – a course paper. The students should demonstrate the ability to select suitable research methods, to carry out a survey, and to interpret and present research results.

    Media Studies (with Course Project)

    Module aim

    To acquaint students with the main issues and methodological perspectives of media studies, developing the understanding of theoretical grounds of mediated culture as well as the understanding of the functioning of media products in nowadays culture.

    Module description

    The course is based on the analysis of the main Media Studies concepts, the examination of the most widespread methodological approaches to media studies and the discussion of actual theoretical and practical problems, concerned with the production and consumption of media culture. In the framework of this course students get acquainted with media theories, various authors and disciplines, in the context of which main problems of Media Studies were formed.

    The course introduces students to urban public space interventions from the point of view of creative and entertainment industries; introduces the types of urban spaces in the city, their research and methodology, the topicalities and peculiarities of the system of public spaces; the concept of the creative city and the city as a medium. Practical creative activations are prepared, implemented and publicised during the course. Students plan creative activations in urban spaces, develop vision, identify limiting factors for implementation. The course promotes result orientation, discusses the issues of consistency of the goal, the means and the result. To optimise the implementation process of the creative project, the issues of teamwork, project management phases, the links between punctuality, fulfilling commitments and real work in creative industries are discussed. Course also focuses on the planning and implementation of communication of creative intervention. The course concludes with a discussion on the progress and results of the implemented creative project, possibilities for further development, the potential for the development of urban interventions, future directions and scenarios for the development of cities, creative industries and media relations

    The subject is intended for a detailed study of the theater phenomenon from the perspective of communication sciences. Students are introduced to the basic models of theater communication, elements of aesthetic communication and features of performance communication. During the lectures, the theory of theater communication, the concept of theater communication and the theater communication system are analyzed. Elements of theater communication (text, direction, acting, etc.) are analyzed in detail. Students are introduced to two meaning coding systems: realistic and non-realistic codes are distinguished. During the course, students are encouraged to apply theoretical knowledge in practice. During the exercises, after deepening the acquaintance with the theory of theater communication, students perform and present a practical analysis of the selected performance. The motives, ways, forms and consequences for political activities are also presented.

Introduce students to the wide range of career opportunities in the field of cinema.

    The concept and development of the film producer’s activities. Practical production tasks in film project implementation. Communication and psychological skills of the film producer. Presentation forms and methods of the film idea. Formation of the film team. Preparation of a film project estimate. Contract drafting practice. Preparation of project-reporting documentation. Dissemination and continuity of project results and the audience-building process. Critical analysis and decision-making in the filmmaking process.

    Module aim

    To get acquainted with the concepts and models of organisational culture, its creation and internal communication as well as the possibilities of the entertainment integration; to be able to distinguish and evaluate the characteristics of successful cases and their mindset and behavior, and to test the knowledge in practice.

    Module description

    During the course of the “Entertainment and the Culture of the Organisation”, students will get to know the theories, models and practices of the culture of organisation, change communication and organisation image formation, also will get to know how entertainment is integrated into the processes of the organisation culture. Students will examine the internal communication processes of a successful organization and the specifics of the communication of individual elements of the organizational culture: vision, mission, strategy and values as well as use of entertainment in the internal communication. The course analyzes classification models of organizational cultures (G.Hofstede, K.S. Cameron and R.E. Quinn, E.Schein, Ch.Handy), methods of identifying and evaluating organizational cultures, and the specifics of the culture of the organisation in a cross-cultural environment. Students will get to know the method of diagnosing organization’s culture, changing culture process specifics and challenges at different stages of organizational maturity. The course will analyze cases of global organizations where organization culture is an important factor for success and distinctiveness. During the exercises, practical abilities to use organization culture identification, creation and communication tools are developed as well as communication and entertainment projects are created for practical real situations in the development of innovation, technology and creativity oriented organizations cultures.
