Students may choose to study two semesters abroad — at the University of Palermo (Italy) or Tallinn University of Technology (Estonia). Upon successful completion, graduates receive two master’s diplomas – one from VILNIUS TECH and one from the selected partner university.

This programme offers hybrid (synchronous) master’s studies – classes are conducted on-campus while simultaneously streamed online, with exams held at VILNIUS TECH. 

The Master's program in Industrial Engineering and Innovation Management prepares engineers for managerial positions in production companies. The programme equips students with the skills necessary to develop and commercialise innovative products and improve production, organisational, and marketing processes in a global competitive environment. The programme emphasises leadership, teamwork, and human resource management, preparing students for senior industrial management roles. 

The goal of the Master’s in Industrial Engineering and Innovation Management programme is to prepare industrial enterprise managerial staff and engineers who can create and market innovative products, as well as improve manufacturing, organisational, and marketing processes in a globally competitive environment.

    Upon completion of the programme, graduates will be able to:
    • Analyse internal and external factors affecting innovation, production, and organisational processes, considering economic, social, technological, and environmental aspects
    • Evaluate patent information in research and development (R&D) and provide insights for creating, producing, and commercialising innovative product

    The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for the management of industrial enterprises’ supply and distributional processes, and inventory management process as well as to assess opportunities for international manufacturing development.

    Module description

    The module is about strategic approach application for the management of supply chain activities. Design and improvement of inbound and outbound sides of logistics. Aggregate planning for supply chain management. Inventory management. Managing demand variability and volatility, it’s forecasting. Supply chain coordination. The process of strategy development for international manufacturing. Offshoring, outsourcing, offshore outsourcing. Country’s selection process for international manufacturing. Countries’ comparison methods and process. The importance of the cultural differences perception for international manufacturing.

    Improvement and Innovation of Manufacturing Process (with course work)

    Module aim

    The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for improvement and innovation development of manufacturing process.

    Module description

    This module presents the key concepts and principles of improvement and innovation of manufacturing process. The models of innovation development of manufacturing process are analyzed. Students are introduced to the principles of TPS (Toyota production system), Lean, Theory of constraints, Six sigma and etc. Syllabus elements are: Continuous improvement process – Kaizen; Ideas generation and creativity stimulation for improvement and innovation of manufacturing process; Process of Value Stream Mapping; Process mapping by F. Gilbreth; Process of Flow charting; Kanban system; Just-in-time inventory strategy; 5S method; Types of wastes (muda) in Lean manufacturing; Takt time, Lead time in Lean manufacturing; SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Die) in manufacturing; Poka-yoke in manufacturing; Autonomation and Jidoka; Production leveling; Workcells in Lean manufacturing; Fixed Repeating Schedule; Gemba in Lean manufacturing; Genchi Genbutsu in Lean manufacturing. Participation in practical works at least 60% of the scheduled exercises is mandatory.

    Module aim

    The goal of the module is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of industrial business organization and strategic management.

    Module description

    The study course covers basics of microeconomics, overview of market power and the dominant companies, static and dynamic games, Cournot’ and Bertrand’ oligopolies, collusive strategies and dynamic models of oligopoly, product differentiation and price discrimination strategies, Stackelberg’ oligopoly, Dixit’ model, strategic analysis of barriers to entry, Fudenberg & Tirole framework, entry deterrence and accommodation strategies, quality and reputation strategies, Signal theory, advertising, R&D, exclusive, predatory and M&A strategies. EViews software is used for basic demand’ modeling steps.

    Module aim

    To acquire theoretical knowledge in innovative product development and marketing as well as improvement of manufacturing and organizational processes in engineering, in planning, organization and management of the activities of an industrial enterprise.

    The Master Graduation Thesis 1 course is focused on the preparation of the Master thesis contents, scientific literature analysis and the preparation of the theoretical part of the Master thesis as well as the highlighting of the problematic issues on which the student will make further investigation.

    The course aims to provide students with knowledge of research methodology and techniques as well as abilities to make research using artificial intelligence and to predict how the research results could be used for innovation creation and implementation industry by solving engineering and managerial problems.

    The module studies the basics of scientific research and artificial intelligence solutions used for research. The basic concept, structure and objectives of research. The qualitative and quantitative research methods. The planning stages, planning validity, reliability and ethics of research. The main strategies of research. Theoretical and empirical research methods. Using artificial intelligence, machine learning, and deep learning for research.

    Marketing of innovative products and investment management course covers innovative product idea generation and initial business model creation using Strategyzer Canvas model, marketing of innovative products and its process overview, industrial activities and competitors analysis, quantitative and qualitative demand analysis, innovative products marketing planning, strategy and development, marketing of innovative products in internet, investment management concept and investment planning, investment appraisal methods and investment climate analysis.

    Manufacturing Simulation and Industrial Production Systems

    Module aim

    To acknowledge with principles of process, especially random, simulation and with manual and computer simulation, and simulation programs. Acknowledge with different manufacturing processes simulation, their features and optimization. Introduce with objectives, tasks, designing of information systems of production management also with enterprise resource planning system.

    Module description

    Study course covers simulation, models of discrete and random processes, forming principles of random process models on the samples of computer simulation by the use of “Arena” program facilities, comparing of model and system structure, analysis of results, machining operations simulation, safeguarding of their productivity simulation and optimization, procedures and basic principles of work flow of manufacturing companies, general economic and manufacturing KPI’s, compatibility of information systems of production management with modern production strategies, basic rules and planning of technological resources and human resources, production management decisions’ economic evaluation and modeling, integration of sales, supply chain and financial procedures into manufacturing.

    Innovation Strategy and Tactics

    Module aim

    The course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for innovation development. Students will learn patterns and peculiarities of innovation management, will be able to analyze innovation activities, open innovation processes, and will be able to develop organization’s innovation strategy and perform tactical solutions.

    Module description

    At the end of the course, students will get knowledge on innovation development and its impact on society and economic growth. They will learn the basics of firm theory; will understand innovation in the context of digital economy development, relationships between innovation and R&D. The students will also learn linear and nonlinear innovation development models such as Stage-gate, Toyota/Oobeya, Design thinking, System innovation, technological products development methods and will obtain the skills how to use them for innovation development. The module presents innovation development strategies, concept of open innovation, crowdsourcing, networking, creativity flow theory for innovation development, ideas generation and evaluation methods, the Progress principle. The students will learn how to develop product innovations, to prepare innovation projects and to create prototypes.

    Human Resource Management and Leadership

    Module aim

    To provide academic knowledge and abilities to apply human resource management and leadership in manufacturing practice, consultation activity, academic researches.

    Module description

    The human resource management and leadership course presents the theoretical models of human resource management (HRM), stages and principles of HR strategy formation. The relationship between HRM strategies and organizational culture & business ethics is revealed. Issues of individual and collective behavior of employees are discussed. The aspects of group and team work in an industrial company, the formation and management of an innovation team, the issues of employee integration in the company, group, and team, as well as the manager’s functions, role, and leadership competencies are examined. The concept of the phenomenon of leadership is presented, the differences between leadership and management and the relations of interaction are identified. While examining the theoretical aspects of leadership, leadership styles are overviewed, the principles of practical applicability of leadership competencies and skills are revealed.

    Module aim

    The course aims to learn how to research, analyse, create, improve and apply innovative products which design is based on results of scientific research.

    Module description

    In the course of Innovative Product Design, the main attention is paid to the implementation of created innovative product conception that is based on scientific research in the modern industrial environment. The process of innovative product design, methods of workability assurance and evaluation, PMBOK processes, CPM, PERT, planning models, application of the PRINCE2 method, practical use of the CAD/CAM/CAE in the innovative product prototypes producing are analysed in details.

    Digital Manufacturing

    Module aim

    The main objective of the Digital Manufacturing course is to provide basic theoretical and practical knowledge of the tools, programs and planning steps which could be used for the digital modeling and manufacturing of products.

    Module description

    Digital manufacturing course – theoretical part of it – covers introduction and objectives of the course, CIM definitions and description of main modules, CAD and CAD/CAM systems in CIM environment, IoT and IIOT devices, overview on process planning, Group Technology (GT) and clustering techniques for part family formation, the Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP), variant CAPP systems, generative CAPP systems, expert CAPP systems, a CAD/CAM system – part modeling, development of plan process for milling operations and 3D printing. Lab works are focused on usage of CAD/CAM system and 3D Solid Modeling with Fusion 360, milling operations: facing, contouring, drilling and pocket machining, 3D Print: CAD file development, STL file production and Building Up. Participation in laboratory works in all scheduled exercises is mandatory.
