National Funding

In Lithuania, the main funding instrument is the postdoctoral fellowship programme of the Research Council of Lithuania (RCL). It provides early-career researchers with the opportunity to carry out fundamental or applied research at a university for a period of two years. The value of a single project may reach up to EUR 130,000, and in 2025 more than EUR 8 million has been allocated to the programme.

International Opportunities

Researchers may also apply for the European Commission’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) postdoctoral fellowships. These provide funding for projects across various scientific fields, ensure international mobility, offer mentoring and support the development of collaborative networks. During the fellowship, early-career researchers can work at host institutions abroad, carry out interdisciplinary research and strengthen their academic reputation at the international level.

VILNIUS TECH Experience and Results

In 2024, 13 projects were carried out at the University in the fields of engineering, technology, environmental and social sciences. At the national level, the Research Council of Lithuania received 197 applications, with funding awarded only to the highest-ranked proposals.
