During lectures, seminars, and independent work, higher education didactics is analyzed, emphasizing student-centered studies, international and national higher education space, forms and methods of communication, methodologies in academic environment with different groups of society. The basis of studies consists of reflexive experiential learning, which helps to develop doctoral students' analytical and critical thinking, ability to evaluate their own and others' decisions, promotes a holistic and responsible approach to their activities.

Module aim

To provide the knowledge on the theoretical background of the EU's agricultural policy, and dependence of the policy frameworks' evolution on general trends of socio-economic development.

Description

Content of the course is focused on the historical and evolutionary development of the EU common agricultural policy (CAP), analyzing the main economic and social development concepts that determined the essential changes of the CAP, and individual contribution of scientists to the development of the CAP. The aim is to highlight the differences of the CAP models at different development stages the EU rural policy and to explain their evolutionary character by adjusting a combination of variable and static components of the policy model. The possibilities to adapt previous experiences of the old EU countries developing national CAP models for Lithuania and other post-socialist countries is also part of the course. Finally the concepts of post-industrial economy are provided that gave impact for the recent CAP framework and discussions about the CAP evolution prospects and trends in the future.

The concept of welfare in the context of sustainable development. Object of welfare economics. The concept of social effectiveness. The concept of citizens' welfare. The concept of living standard and its quality. Main characteristics of living standard. Employment. The problem of unemployment, its social and economic subsequences. Employment policy and evaluation of effectiveness of its measures. Level of population income and its structure. The concept of poverty. The main social economic indicators determining poverty. Social insurance and its structure. Social services and social support in cash.

To provide doctoral students with complex knowledge and skills related to investment portfolio management, its processes, developing the ability to analyze current and past market situations, the causes and factors of changes in the historical prices

Description

The study subject Investment Portfolio Theory and its application comprehensively examines the main issues of investment and portfolio formation and management, such as securities portfolio formation and management, analysis of investment environment, that is necessary for proper selection of assets in the portfolio, market uncertainty, risk and return coordination, inclusion of alternative investments into the portfolio, different portfolio theories and their application in modern markets.

To master welfare economics, social exclusion and labour market policy theoretical provisions, structure and functions.

Description

The subject aims to overview theories of social policy, social risks and social and labour market problems in contemporary society and the main elements of the system of social protection. It also covers concepts of social justice, historical development of the Welfare State and its models, challenges raised by globalization and modernization of the Welfate state. The subject is oriented towards practical aspects of social policy, covering all branches of social security including the compensation schemes of income lost due to social risks, labour market policy and programs of employment support. The curricula of the subject also includes the development of Lithuanian social welfare system.

Description

The module includes integrated studies on globalization processes and the global economy. Priority is given to topics and issues such as: 1. Globalization and the global economy as the objects of the scientific cognition and research. Theories of globalization and global economics, their diversity; 2. Global markets. International trade, international investment, scientific and technological progress and technology transfer in the system of the global economic development processes. The labor migration and the global labor market development in the context of the processes of economic globalization. Social development, environmental protection and the strengthening of national and international security under conditions of economic globalization; 3. International organizations and their activities in the context of the processes of globalization and the development of the global economy.
